King William's Coat

During the Era of Change, when the Kingdom of Chilved was not warring with other kingdoms, it was often times persecuting members of its own. Two generations after The Fall of Westlia, King William II of Chilved became incredibly sick for 3 weeks. Plagued with fever dreams, William II believed that when he was asleep, one of his chamber maids would sneak into his room and sit on his chest, hoping to crush his lungs, but disappear as soon as he woke up. William lined up all of his chamber maids and questioned them one by one, not a single one confessed to doing such an act. William threatened to execute them all, but was approached by his court mage, an Aasimar from Astrid named Thirsa.   Thirsa used to be a Paladin of Galaxa, God of Enlightenment before serving as court mage. She disclosed that when pursuing demons and other such creatures that worked in dark ways, the Paladins of Galaxa would coat their weapons in silver to inflict further harm to them. King William treated this information as if it was a gift from Galaxa themselves and ordered for a blade of pure silver to be forged for him. The next day, Hag’s Bane was presented to William. William questioned each of his chamber maids again, this time cutting their hands before questioning. Each chamber maid withstood questioning until the 7th, a human seeming woman named Jain Wen was cut. Unknown to Wen before this, she was a quarter Tiefling, making her blood just ever so demonic in chemical nature. While her blood bled red, the wound sizzled as if it was boiling water. When Wen pulled back from King William, she pointed her free finger at him and blasted him back with a Hellish Rebuke, making her escape. King William survived the attack, but Hag’s Bane was destroyed and the silver shrapnel's of the weapon covered the king’s face and body, a look he came to embrace and even insist on having. Enraged and emboldened by the confirmation that supernatural forces were acting against the crown, King William declared martial law in Chilved and started The Summer Hunt.     The Summer Hunt was a 4 month time period in which Chilved was flipped upside down and forever changed. Not only did King William lead patrols through the streets of Chilved to single out any possible witch, demon, or other creature perceived as threatening, but he required every soldier of Chilved to wield weapons tipped with Silver. This military outfitting is still standard to all Chilved soldiers as of The Great Disturbance. Though arming the royal guard of the kingdom with silver weapons was a good start, King William knew that putting responsibility into the hands of the citizens of his kingdom would be even more effective.     King William’s Summer Hunt went from a governmental push, to that of the entire population of Chilved when King William’s Coat was created and distributed. A single bar of silver and copper carved to look like King William was given out for free at Temples of Corenthia, goddess of culture. King William gave demonstrations on how to properly use King William’s Coat every week in Chilved’s city square, coining his iconic catchphrase “Put me on your blade and I will protect you.” This ended up as a massive success, with thousands of individuals being run out of the Kingdom and over 1500 deaths over the course of the summer. The Summer Hunt ended with King William’s death. At the peak of the Summer Hunt, King William II of Chilved was found dead in his bedroom, his skin colored sliver. Exhumation of the corpse revealed large amounts of silver in King William’s bloodstream from the shards of silver he left in his body and trace amounts in his stomach, implying that he was consuming silver to protect himself. Such a name and such a legacy earned King William II the name, King William the Silver.     While King William II died and his sister, Queen Cyra took the throne, William’s legacy lived on through the iconographic silver bars he distributed amongs his people. Because of its wide distribution since The Summer Hunt of The Era of Change, one can find King William’s Coat in near any general goods store in Dioya and many locations in the Clansplains and Nirvania. King William’s Coat is used by travelers, priests, rangers, and more to protect oneself from creatures with a natural aversion to silver.
Each bar of King William’s Coat contains enough Silver for 5 uses on any surface.     A coated weapon will do +10 damage to any Undead, Fiend, Demon, Lycanthrope, or Hag on the next successful hit.     King William’s coat only has one use per coat.     A user proficient with the weapon they wish to coat can apply King William’s Coat as a bonus action.
