Spell: Epitaph

Written by pasanov

The spell ought to be used only for the biggest baddies of the campaign, and the spell level reflects this. Your players have been trying to get this person or entity for sessions and sessions on end, imagining their demise and the world without them in it. Help them channel these feelings into the final epitaph!
9th-level Necromancy   Casting Time: 1 hour (to write the epitaph) + 1 minute (to cast the spell)   Range: 60 feet   Components: V, S, M (a piece of parchment and a quill)   Duration: Instantaneous
You craft a powerful epitaph, weaving the fate of your target into words. During the one-minute casting time, you must read the epitaph aloud, over and over again, maintaining concentration. While you read, you do not have to stay within 60 ft of the target. If you stay within 60 ft, any attacks made against the target have advantage, as the weight of their impending doom hangs over them. Simultaneously, the target has disadvantage on any attacks made against you.
After successfully casting the spell, the target must make a Charisma saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failed save, their fate is sealed as described in the epitaph. You must also roll a luck roll by rolling 2d20 and choosing the result on the table below:

1d20 ScoreDescription
1-8 The target's death backfires; some or all of your allies are caught in the blast zone and take 3d10 necrotic damage.
9-16 The target's death goes exactly as planned.
17-20 The target's death is even better than planned: some or all of the enemy's allies take 3d10 necrotic damage.
On a successful save, the target takes 3d10 non-lethal damage and you roll only 1d20 for your luck roll.

Optional: The type of damage dealt by the epitaph's effect depends on the specific descriptions contained within it.
