Ezekiel Ebenezer Beauforte

The noble family of Beauforte have always been respected vassals of the House Cannith. They helped in maintaining and expanding the trading network, which was used by House Cannith to sell their weapons during the Last War.   Ezekiel Ebenezer, Eezie for short, came from one of the more wealthy and renown branches of the family. He had received the finest education in politics, economics and history and was adept in all, especially when it came to crunching data. Though more the silent type, he always behaved like a perfect gentleman and was a welcome guest at the many social events. A promising future awaited him in the family business.   House Cannith was going through a rough patch at that moment. Though they had a massive fortune, enormous political power and the rule of Starrin d'Cannith was respected, there were small conflicts emerging, mainly between the branches of Sharn and Aundair. It was then, no surprise, when the families proposed a marriage between two of the most promising youths of both sides. And so Ezekiel Ebenezer Beauforte was wed to Lelysa d'Cannith, one of the most beautiful woman of Sharn. Eezie moved to Sharn, where he and his new wife would live in a small mansion in one of the better neighbourhoods of Sharn. It would seem that the match was not only made for convienience but also in heaven, as the Eezie and Lelysa really grew fond of each other. Lelysa proved to be an excellent socialite, organising many events and Eezie made a carreer in the Cannith tradebusiness.   However, after the Mourning and the Treaty of Thronehold, things took a darker turn. House Cannith was in turmoil. There was no clear leadership, trade had collapsed and they had lost the forges. Somewhere amid the emerging conflicts and rising tensions, Lelysa died. She came home ill after a charity event, and a few days later she passed away in Eezie's arms. Nobody dared call it murder, however clear the use of poison was. An investigation would light a fuse that could cause a full war in House Cannith.   Ezekiel found himself stuck in a dark place. He would not return 'home' as he was certain that Cannith West had murdered his beloved wife, but his house felt so empty, now that he was alone. He wanted to use his researcher skills to find the true murderer of Lelysa, but the new leaders of Cannith South felt that it would be better if his talents were used on other projects. They gave him some books on something called "The Prophecy". Ancient texts predicting some apocalypse. There were worries that the texts had predicted the Last War and the Mourning, so they wanted to investigate further if other predictions in the texts could be true too.   Eezie focused all his energy in the investigations and he soon found that there might be more to them than just some ancient ramblings. He reported his findings to Cannith South, but they waved it away saying it was all to vague. But Ezekiel was determined to find out more. He left his position as a chief accountant for Cannith South, stating he would try his luck as a collector of rare items. He used his new cover to travel and to gain access to libraries all over Khorvair. As he dug deeper into the prophecy he discovered that practically every culture of Khorvair had some sort of similar predictions. The contents varied from here to there, but the main idea was the same in all the texts. Something big was going to happen.   As he got older and the work kept piling up, he decided he needed an assistant. Since he trusted nobody from Cannith South, he ordered a repurposed Warforged from TinkerBelle, one of the best Warforged shops in Sharn. Rom was an ideal assistant. He could help with processing all the data, but also protect him in the many shady locations they visited. Over time he returned to TinkerBelle with Rom many times, each time to loosen his restrictions and give him more autonomy, so that he could perform a wider array of tasks. In the end, the constant focus on the research and denial of his grieve, began to take his toll and Ezekiel's health was deminishing. Rom took over most of the out-house tasks as Eezie dug into the many texts he had procured. Eventually he never left the house again and Rom became his representation full-time.   In the end, his research had become a full obsession. He was now certain that a Great Doom was coming soon, but he had no hard evidence to present to the authorities. The prophecy spoke of a mysterious servant that would appear and when Eezie heard that House Orien would open a portal, he was convinced that would be the doorway for the servant. If he could capture the servant, he would have the proof he needed to convince everybody. He secured an invitation for Rom, but before he could pass on his ideas and orders, he collapsed and died surrounded by his research.   Later that day Rom found his master. Since his programming did not allow him to warn anybody of Ezekiel's death, Rom and the other warforged that looked after the mansion, buried Ezekiel in the garden of the mansion, next to the grave of Lelysa.   Life at the mansion continued as before, as if nothing had happened...
