Session 1: Introductions Report

General Summary

The party members each arrive in Donborough. Dacha has been staying at the temple of Thar Ashaela while he recovers from a serious wing injury, Skreech appears in a field to the west of the village, and Rinrin, Droknar and Brakmat hitch rides with a merchant caravan that arrives in the early morning at the docks in southern Donborough. As the merchants unpack their carts, Skreech and Dacha both venture to the docks just in time to witness a confrontation between Droknar and Rinrin, who both believe they are being followed by the other. Their quarrel is interrupted by an attack from Sahuagin rising from the tides to attack the civilians going about their daily lives. The party manages to fend off the Sahuagin raid with only one villager casualty, though one of the Sahuagin manages to escape after their leaders are slain.    The group is approached by Sheriff Morro Grubbidge and members of the village militia, informing the sheriff of the Sahuagin attack and that one of the raiders escaped back into the Ruuldalai Sea. The Sheriff thanks the strangers for their assistance before directing the militia to help clean up the docks and tend to the survivors. Skreech's golems, Francis and Gerald, were severely damaged in the battle and he learns of a blacksmith named Rigak in the vilage who might be able to help him. Brakmat feasts on his fallen enemies and then decides to sunbathe for awhile, while Dacha, Rinrin and Droknar return to the temple of Thar Ashaela to speak with Nasse, the temple's warden.   Nasse is disturbed that the village had been attacked by creatures from the deep, believing that her deity Thar Ashaela must be displeased with her. She enlists the help of Dacha, Droknar, and Rinrin (who secretly disappears mid-meeting to visit the local apothecary) to escort her to the old temple of Thar Ashaela in the nearby ruins of Thimblewall, where she believes she can uncover artifacts to regain her goddess' favor. She asks them to gather allies to help with the mission, so Dacha and Droknar leave to assemble the others they fought with at the docks.   Skreech sits down to chat with the lizardfolk Rigak who provides the Thri-kreen with scrap metal in exchange for information on the construction of his golem companions. As the two are leaving his shop, Rigak is spotted by a now-awake Brakmat who lets out a threatening growl, recognizing Rigak as a member of a rival Saurian tribe. Before the two come to blows in the town square, the divine soul within Brakmat calms him and convinces him to simply talk to the other Saurian, who informs him the priestess of Thar Ashaela may have more information about the divine curse that is affecting the Saurian warrior.   Rinrin visits the local apothecary Nangan expecting to find a fellow mouseling, only to discover the apothecary is an older, severely disfigured ratling. Nangan seems very interested in the mouseling who is too scared to provide the ratling with much information, as her family instilled in her a severe fear of the ratlings due to their history of dark magic and war with the mousefolk. Nangan does reveal that he was a member of a ratling community from north of the village but fled after they performed experiments that left him disfigured. She leaves the shop without purchasing anything, running into Dacha and Droknar who inform Rinrin of their mission for Nasse. Brakmat meets with Nasse who is unable to shed additional light on the nature of the curse inside of him, and eventually the five strangers make their way to Nasse where they are offered the mission to escort her to the old temple.   As it is late in the day, the group decides to retire to the local tavern, the Half Pint, to eat and rest before their journey north. There they meet the halfling owner of the tavern, Finton Berrybottle, and his half-orc wild Odsar, as well as their children, Ochmaa and Rossira. Rossira mentions she recognized Droknar and asks where his companions are, but the dwarf evades her questions. The young orcling proudly informs the group she gets to sleep in one of the "big girls" rooms this evening along with her sister.   Later that night, the group is awoken by the girls' screaming as each of them is attacked by small mechanical spider-like creatures in each of their rooms. Dacha ignores his attackers and immediately rushes to check on the girls' room, only to find their window open and a large creature bounding into the night. Dispatching their would-be assailants, the group chases down the monstrosity which turns out to be a horrific creature of unknown origin, which had been carrying both of the passed-out girls toward some green glowing light in the farmlands to the east. The monster drops its victims and engages the group in combat, but the party is able to take down the creature before it nearly kills Rinrin, rescuing the girls from some unknown fate.
