Senior Fellow of IMP

Most members of the various Societies of IMP (Institute of Magical Phenomena) are known as Fellows - these are the people who receive an income and use of the Society facilities in return for their contributions in research. There are also some other types of members: Patrons of the Scientific and Arcane Arts, which are those who often contribute a significant portion of the funding of IMP; {TITLE NAME}, who are those contribute to research themselves but are wealthy and wish for a measure of independence (or are not respected enough to be granted the title of Fellow) ; and Professors, who are the heads of the Societies and members of the governing Council of IMP.
Fellows are sorted into three ranks: Junior, Full, and Senior Fellows. Senior Fellows are usually responsible for heading focus groups for specific research endeavours; allocating funding within the limits placed upon them by the IMP Council, their Professor, and any wishes from the patron providing the funds; organising research results into publications or orations; and assisting Junior Fellows in finding their way into the appropriate focus groups or assistant positions. They are not required to personally mentor Junior Fellows, although quite a number of them do. All these tasks are in addition to their own contributions to research in their areas of interest.
As might be guessed, the rank of Senior Fellow is not one for the faint-hearted and this one of the reasons that many wealthier members who could become Senior Fellows choose to take on the rank of {TITLE NAME} instead, despite the added costs to themselves. Many other competent but less confident Fellows are also perfectly happy to remain at the rank of Full Fellow. Nevertheless, Senior Fellows do receive a number of compensations and priviliges in return for their hard work. These include greater access to the IMP libraries in other Societies, the ability to influence the direction of research within a focus group so it dovetails with their own interests, the freedom to grant themselves plenty of allotted time in Society facilities (within reason), a standing invitation to any IMP events or functions, and a general respect and interest amongst many of the Taesáf.
