Logic and faerie exist on opposite ends of a spectrum and the world is tilting towards logic even as the mourning cries start to sound. The folk of Dlynaeth seek communion and harmony with nature and magic, but their needs press them ever more towards exploitation. As the approach to magic becomes increasingly technical, there is less and less room for faerie and its slow, deep, wild connection with nature. Two young scholars prepare to embark on a journey in the hopes of reclaiming lost knowledge; their mentor leaps at this chance to work beyond the limits of their institution; a young craftsman is just trying to ensure they get there without too many accidents; together they hope to start turning the tide towards a gentler world.
