The Black Lodge
The Black Lodge Covenant
A highly secretive covenant of Black Mages; many of whom are witches, necromancers and other renegades. It is unknown how old the Black Lodge is, or indeed how it was originally formed.
It is said that it was founded in Kirnstone by a dozen witches who met together in a decrepit lodge, somewhere in the deep forested wilderness, and those original witches supposedly still lead the Lodge.
The Black Lodge holds some influential power in a select few nations; particularly in and around the lands of Thivia and Amaranthia, as well as in the freestate of Avarra, and the Kirnlord city-states.
There are likely smaller groups found elsewhere in the wider world as well; hiding in secrecy, since many show hatred or fear for the concept of an organized cult of typically illegal spellcasters.
Depending on where in the world one might find these Lodgers, they're either acting openly or in the shadows, since their influence or a nation or city's laws might at least protect them from open persecution.
According to encounters with members of the Black Lodge, their creed serves to locate and aid individuals considered to be illegal mages and similar.
The Black Lodge openly opposes the Sanctum Laws and any other laws that restrict mage freedoms, and the Lodge seeks to help those being persecuted for basically being different and unwanted.
The sentiment isn't only focused on mages, but extends towards most others who might be hunted for whatever race they were born as.
Overall the Black Lodge seeks to resist the oppression of those who are different, but their methods are often seen as vile or too extreme. The fact that they willingly recruit almost any mage who wishes to join them, means that their members will consist of many individuals who can be seen as dangerous and unstable.
Wild mages, necromancers, witches and all sorts of renegades come together to form an unpredictable and threatening pot of magic wielders.
It is difficult to say whether the Black Lodge is an Order acting on the prospects of justice and goodness, since its members are often so varied in their wishes and efforts that no group among them seem to act in a similar way.
It seems that the main point that unites them as a whole is their fear and hatred for those who would do them harm. Under a pretense of safety in numbers, Black Mages might find the Black Lodge to be a safehaven of their kind.
