Legionnaire's

“I'm hardly looking to marry an automaton."   "But it would be convenient, wouldn't it?" Cassandra mused, coming to stand just a foot or two away from him.   "A mechanical wife would never annoy or inconvenience you," she continued.
"No love required on either side. And even with the expense of minor repairs and maintenance, she would be quite cost-effective.”
In the revolution of magic and technology, the high elves went through in the last centuries, they build themselves mindless automatons, the legionnaire's, as better and improved servants and solders for their kingdom.
They produced them in the millions, making many different versions of them, and positioning them in countless positions in X.   And while they are still regarded as strange new technology outside of x, inside it, they are very normal by now. Even though normal doesnt necessarily mean well-liked, and many lower elves quietly resent them for taking their jobs or policing over them.   But after all this time of their existence and service, some of them have started to change, to become sentient bit by bit, suddenly starting to develop personalities and values of their own.

Appearance

Legionnaire's come in many different designs and skins, depending on the job and/or person, they where made for.   As such, Legionnaire's made for simple physical labor, are often made with hardened wood or steel, as they have no use in being pretty, only in being efficient and resilient. Their jobs usually encompass farm-, transportation- or building work.   Legionnaire's made to be seen and represent the fae court in contrast are not only made durable, but beautiful on top of that, serving of pillars of the high elves culture with the Art they have been made into. They are often out of precious crystals or metals, like gold or silver, or at least adorned with them. Some of them are made with fine materials like delicately painted porcelain or assorted mosaic shards. And really, every expression of art possible is to be found between them, as many great artists have tried themselves on their creations over the years.
They serve as bodyguards, soldiers, police or even servants for royal families in some cases.   All Legionnaire's of similar military jobs, that lie outside of X's walls are a lot less decorated though, as they need more importantly to blend into the woods or structures they guard from, than look impressive.
As such they are often made from stone or wood or similarly unassuming materials, that help them blend into their surroundings.   Beneath these different skins and bones though, they all have similar "musculature" out of leather, wooden fibers, or any similar material, and systems of vessels, resembling the circulatory system of organic creatures, filled with blood-like fluid.   Their faces are all simple and vague in their features, with beak-like jaws, glowing eyes, runic marking, sometimes brows and little else. The most important part of that being the unique rune each of them has on their forehead, marking them as individual and named by them as "ghulra", the primordial word for "truth".   They are also completely sexless, as they are not made for reproduction, and usually going by gender-neutral pronouns, though some might have "adopt" genders, or been given such by their owners.

Names

Automatons names are defined by their "ghulra", as the runes on their foreheads are considered such and represent their written names for them. Translated into common language though their names are usually three letters short and make quite strange sounds.
Only the names of brand-new automatons vary from that pattern, as their names have four letters instead.   Example names for them would be: Egx, Owo, Cyd, Xir, Eqb, Oid, Ecu.

DM Advice

When playing a Legionnaire you have to consider what it was build for first. Who is its master? What is its job? How was it build to accommodate this? Does it like its job?
And then all the questions about its awakening to consciousness.
How did this happen? Did it just click one day, and it was aware of itself or did this happen gradually? What did this change for the automaton? What does it want, now that it is able of wanting something? Love? Power? Friendship? How does it behave according to that? Has it remained in its job trying to be unassuming or left to find a life for itself somewhere else?

Lifespan
A typical automaton is between fourty and fifty years old. The maximum lifespan of the automaton remains a mystery; so far, automatons have shown no signs of deterioration due to age. You are immune to magical aging effects.
