The Death of Reldoth

Metaphysical / Paranormal event

1502
16/5

The hero known as Reldoth dies in battle against his former friend, sacrificing himself to take his opponent down with him. The city he saved was renamed in his honor.

One thousand years ago, in a city without a name, two adventurers worked side by side to protect the people at the behest of the crown. One was a master of the arcane, and the other a master of stealth and blades. Over time, they earned the favor of the king, but the rogue's ambition grew ever more powerful and dark.
At the prompting of dark whisperers from beyond the realm of mortals, the rogue slew the king as a sacrifice to initiate a dark apotheosis within himself. In retaliation, the mage petitioned for the aid of the divine in combating his fallen friend, and was given immense celestial power.
The two clashed, their power rending and changing the very landscape around them, suffusing it with their very essence. The mage realized that he would not make it out of this alive, and so sacrificed himself to take his opponent out with him, self-destructing in an arcane maelstrom. When the dust settled, their battlefield had become a crater, with the only remains of the two former allies being two stone statues resting at the center, as if still locked in combat to this day.
The hero's sacrifice was not forgotten, and he lives on in the hearts and minds of the land he saved. He is now celebrated and praised as a guardian spirit of the city which carries his name in remembrance. A city called Reldoth.
