Book 1: Souragne Session 1
Chapter 1: The Mysterious Swamp
General Summary
Coming from different lands, each character finds themselves surrounded by a thick Mist and transported into a hot and humid swamp, their feet sinking in the wet ground below them.
Before they had a chance to explore their surroundings, an alligator charged towards them, guarding the body of a man it was clearly just about to feast upon. The group of strangers worked together to defeat the alligator and within moments the body, that appeared to be dead, rose from the ground and shambled towards them. They were able to defeat both the alligator and former man.
They discussed their situation and each discovered that no one seemed to know where they were and none of them were native to the swamp they found themselves in. After exploring a nearby raft and the man that rose as an undead creature, they discovered a note from the man’s sister “Gwen” indicating that she did not wish for him to journey into the swamp and made reference to a Blight that had plagued their land. They also discovered a rather poorly drawn map of what they thought might be the area, but found it to be rather useless to assist them in finding their way around.
Without any other ideas, they decided to take the raft and venture into the swamp in hopes of finding someplace safe. During their journey, they were attacked by severed hands that crawled out of the swamp and onto their raft as well as a strange, small creature with long claws and a giant head. Once defeated, the creature appeared to be that of a shrunken body on an oversized head with a wound over its heart that had been stitched shut.
As night descended upon the swamp, they saw a camp fire through the trees, pulled the raft to a shore and went to investigate. At the camp, they saw a large rabbit stirring a pot of stew over an open flame and a fox tuning a lute. The animals greeted the group and when asked for some of the stew, the fox (Bushtail) told them they could have some in exchange for a story. Amoeity told the story of how they had arrived to the camp and as he did Bushtail played a song and images of the tale appeared in the smoke of the fire. As they ate dinner, Bouki (the rabbit) offered a deal - save his cousin, Longears, from the trappers and in exchange he will grant them safe passage out of the swamp to the nearest human settlement as well as a place to rest for the evening.
