Darkon was one a vast wilderness brimming with arcane energy where mages vied for power. These mages held little interest outside of their arcane experiments and the populace suffered under a lawless and chaotic regime. Much of the Arcane Age is lost to time, but titles such as The Shadow King, Moonblood, Worldchild, and The Weaver were among the great wizards of the time.

In 383 BC, a powerful Archmage named Darcalus rose to power and destroyed what remained of his arcane rivals. Darcalus proclaimed himself Darkon’s King or “Rex” and untied Darkon under his rule. Darcalus was known as a capricious and hedonistic ruler. His judgements and punishments were often unnecessarily cruel. Darcalus enjoyed throwing large, lavish balls throughout Darkon where he would put his cruelties and debauchery on display.

It’s unclear when Azalin first appeared in Darkon, but is 579 BC it is said that he single-handedly defeated Darcalus and claimed the throne of Darkon. Unlike Darkon’s former King, Azalin is seen as a cold, austere individual who is rarely seen in public. However, the populace did not receive a relief from an iron-fisted rule and Azalin holds tightly onto his power.
