Aether Mist

The Aether Mist is a strange type of fog that has some unusual properties and forms rather swiftly and unexpectedly. Those who encounter the mist quickly learn to avoid it at all costs. Getting lost in the fog is very easy and many people have disappeared, never to be heard from again.   Stories abound of people losing not only their way in the mist, but also of losing time or even short term memory. Some claim to hear disembodied voices beckoning them towards steep cliffs, deep woods, or swallowing swamps. Others frightfully tell of a huge beast that follows them through the thick fog.

Manifestation

This mist appears as a thick, sparkling grey or silver cloud that rises from the ground or water. It climbs unusually high and is near impossible to see very far through it and hearing is said to be muffled as well. Additionally spatial awareness is skewed and tricks of light and shadow give the impression of things moving just out of sight in the mists. Temperatures inside of the vapor are said to be much colder than the air outside of the cloud and many report a numbing sensation on their bare skin when they first touch the strange fog. Those who travel through it report that they are quickly covered in a thin layer of condensed water, although whether this is from the mist or just a cold sweat from their panic is debatable.

Localization

In theory this strange vapor could possibly turn up anywhere that moist air encounters cold air. However there are currently only two locations that are known to consistently, if somewhat irregularly, have, produce, or release the Aether Mist. Both the Viker Kaare River and the Zarici Forest are most often recognized as having this rare fog. It is believed by most that the moist air above the river and the strange minerals that it carriers combine with the cool air of autumn and spring to produce this mist. Others claim that there is some weak point in the planar fabric that allows this mist to flow in from another plane.
