"All Cats Day"
In Graymalkin, the main holiday is called “All Cats Day”. This occurs on the 9th day of the 9th month, celebrating the founding of the city all those years ago.
The holiday begins with an opening parade and speeches by the “Council Of Nine” in the festival field (formerly in the town square) and a list of activities and contests are explained to the crowd. Many contests and activities are located in the main field with additional vendors set up around its outside. The main points of interest for the day are the “The All Cats Day Agility Course” and livestock auctions.
Other contests include baking, fishing, wood chopping, axe throwing, whistling, animal imitation, hoop toss, and various track and field events, amongst others.
The livestock auctions usually consist of various farm animals, pets, and unusual patterned cats, but on rare occasions a highly trained hunting cat or kitten may be found.
The famous “The All Cats Day Agility Course” is an obstacle laden path that participants try to complete in the fastest time. There are usually 3 courses set up, one for kids, one for average folk, and one for experts. Courses vary from year to year and prizes are given out to the winners in each category. Wagering is often involved as well as intense cheering for each favorite champion.
