Lizarriot

"Lizarriot"   The Lizarriot was originally created by the war masters of Pythia as a means of striking quickly and delivering heavy damage to enemy foes. Opposing foot soldiers stood no chance against a group of these machines pulled by their terrible beasts. This vehicle is credited with being one of the reasons that Pythia was able to defeat and unite the various city-states into a single kingdom of Pythos.   The Lizarriot began as an ordinary chariot with a few important modifications. While chariots where good moving over hard surfaces, they quickly bogged down in loose sand and marshy areas. The horses that pulled these chariots were also at a disadvantage over long campaigns in hot climates.   Several changes to the chariot were made. First the horses were traded out for the more durable and less costly giant monitor lizards. These being more adaptable to the various climates and environmental conditions. Not only could they travel over the terrain more sure footedly, but could also bite and claw at enemies, and were also easier to feed, as they willingly ate the remains of their foes. Different monitor lizards could be harnessed to the Lizarriot depending on what the circumstances called for. The best lizards for combat seem to be the Spiked Monitor and the War Monitor.   Under the bottom of the front of the chariot, a central spring assisted, upright curved ski was installed. The ski can pivot and helps in steering and turning the vehicle. Additionally it serves two other purposes. The first is that it keeps the vehicle upright instead of nosing down when the monitor stops moving. The second is to allow the vehicle to more easily navigate over uneven, rocky, and bumpy terrain. As the sloped ski encounters a rock, it gradually rides up and over it as opposed to a wheel jarring into it. The two rear wheels remain but have been enlarged to help ride over objects better. Also two other upward curving, spring assisted skis are located next to each wheel. These are attached to an internal lever that will raise or lower them depending on the driving conditions. On a smooth hard surface they are raised so that the wheels do all of the work and in uneven, sandy, or marshy conditions the skis can be lowered to help the Lizarriot glide over the surface. Being yoked to one of a variety of giant monitor lizards, greatly improves speed, efficiency, and warcraft.
