Originally created by the inhabitants of the Pellis Desert as a means of quickly traversing the large sandscape. The Sand Sleds began as simple wagons or carts with a few modifications. Although still made out of wood and steel straps and fasteners, the wheels too often dug into the sand slowing or even bogging down, bringing the wagons to a standstill. The intrepid dwarves of the Pellis Desert added large runners and skis to the wagons creating a sand sled. The runners and skis being upturned in the front and having a wide breadth are able to displace a bit of the sand keeping the sled from cutting into the sand and still move at a fast pace. Two large runners were placed on either side of the sled and run a little longer than the wooden frame. It the front of the sled, in the center is an additional wide ski that can pivot to aid in turning as well as to help keep the sled from bogging down. Each runner and ski is attached to a strong spring suspension to reduce bumps and jarring rises and falls.
After many trials with various animal teams being harnessed or yoked in to pull the sled, it was found that the most efficient was that of a Wedge-Faced Monitor. Their omnivorous appetite is easy to provide for and they can go along time without eating, lowering the costs and resource requirements compared to other animals. Additionally their preference for hot sunny climates makes them far superior to others in the Pellis Desert. A single animal is quite sufficient to pull a fully loaded, average sized sled, but additional monitors can also be harnessed together for increased pulling power and faster speeds. With more lizards pulling the sled comes increased issues of cooperation between the monitors, higher food and water consumption, and increased difficulty in controlling a team of large lizards. A team of four Wedge-Faced Monitor seem to be the greatest number to use safely and effectively.

Cargo & Passenger Capacity
Capacity is determined by the size of the sled and if there are any additionally attached sleds. It is not recommended to attach any additional sleds, as stability becomes highly questionable.
