Selva Monde

"Selva Monde"   "Out of food, out of water, out of supplies, and after hacking and slashing our way through the thick foliage and avoiding poisonous plants and enormous creatures for weeks, the land suddenly swelled upwards. We climbed all day to try and gain some elevation to see just where in this blasted place we were. Just before dark, we sent the cooks son up the tallest tree to gain some bearing. Much to our surprise he reported that we were heading up a large mountain in a small mountain range to the north. As he climbed back down, we nervously asked him about the other directions. With a deep breath he replied, 'As far as I can see, jungle to the south. Jungle to the west. And damned jungle to the east. Where in the green hell are we?'   Where are we indeed? Lost in this green hell obviously. At least we haven't heard those erie drum beats in a few nights. Though I still hear the pounding of blood in my ears. Or is it in my head? I'm not sure. 'Is it worth it?', she said before I left. I'm not so sure my answer is the same now."     Taken from the journal of Petere Toten
