Summer Camp 2024 Reading Challenge

The Articles:

Article #1 Sku'um

This was a cool article about an underwater disease that affects sea dwelling inhabitants, particularly the fishfolk. The first part is really neat in that it is written from the perspective of the monster that creates and spreads the disease. It's a great remindr for me to think about developing my underwater realms as well.

Article #2 Lephia

An interesting article about a tumultuous region. I liked how the different races came to the region and how they interacted. I'll have to keep that in mind as I create new areas of my world.

Article #3 Bethany Starlight

A very detailed telling of a character who goes through a great change. I especially liked the narrative on how she changed from one profession into a new related one.

Article #4 Lira of Kalmora

Another very detailed telling of a character who goes through a great change. This article takes us throughout most of Lira's life and important events and eventual legacy.

Article #5 Aviela of Velarris

Another very detailed telling of a character who goes through a great change. This article shows us the beginning, middle, and end of Aviela's life, as well as her metamorphosis, legacy, and influence on her city as their new deity.

Article #6 The Kingsail

This was a quick little article about a named, siren-hunting ship that caused social upheaval. It was used during their civil war and then decomissioned and parts were repurposed elsewhere. This gives me some ideas for future ships in my world.

Article #7 Sorcerer Carpets

This was a cool article about a very unusual vehicle that caused social upheaval. The idea of flying carpets or sorcerers carpets add a great deal to fantasy worlds and make me try and think of other objects that could be used in similar fashions.

Article #8 The Silver Eel

This was a cool little myth about a food that turned out ot have a very interesting ending.

Article #9 Zutta

This was a great article about an evil entity and how it attained godhood.

Article #10 Eclipse Moon

This was an interesting article about a symbol of belief. This symbol serves as both a badge and reminder of the power and influence those who possess it have. I need to add many symbols into my world at some point.

Worldbuilding Goals For The Next Half Year: For the remainder of this year I think that I will be focusing on updating some forgotten articles from when I first started experimenting with WorldAnvil and continue to focus on the elves. The elves in my world always seem to get neglected somehow. I also need to add and fix up some of my deities and expand on the religions and organizations of each one. Maybe I can combine them and do some elven deities once I finish up the dwarven deities. I also definitely need to add some darkness and evil into my world. Right now it seems too pleasant and needs to be more dangerous, so I’ll have to think about that aspect as well.
Overall, Summer Camp was great, even though I wasn’t able to write too many articles again this year. I kind of expected that going in, but all’s well that ends well. Looking forward to September’s challenge, Spooktober, and WorldEmber.
