The Star Punch Pictosystem was first created by the ancient Star Elves millennia ago. Although is was not the first alphabet or script used by the elves, it is perhaps the most elusive to find examples of and impossible to translate so far. This system was so named because of the starlike shapes that were used and because of how the elves would punch the symbols into soft clay, mud, and even dough. They would apparently use special slanted, flat wooden picks and press those into the soft material to leave the desired imprint. Secret messages were often done in this way and after a quick read could be destroyed easily. A few remaining hardened, clay tablets date back to the time when elves, dwarves, and humans all fought each other for territory over four thousand years ago.
Writing System
The Star Punch alphabet is more closely related to picture and symbol writing than it is to the more recognizable lettered alphabets of the various races and cultures found throughout the world. Instead of each sound or part of sound being represented by a figure or letter, the Star Punch symbol represents an entire word. Each word is represented by one or more pointed stars. The size of the star denotes its importance and the numbers of stars, locations of stars, the number of points on the star, and even the lengths of the points on the star, all change the meaning of the word. This creates an enormous amount of variety and combinations of words to remember. This coded language takes decades to learn and even longer to master.
The Star Punch coded language is quite ancient and has only been used by the most secretive of Star Elves, or Celestial Elves as they refer to themselves. Even the modern elven races cannot decipher the code, or so they claim.
