The Night the Veil Pierced Mystas

The title of an ancient tome, written long before the discovery of Dominion, tells the tale of a great explosion of energy that changed the realm of Mystas. None alive today can recall this event as it occurred around 10,000 years ago, but it was the night that changed the realms forever. The world was simple and futile before, but after... magical and full of wonders.

What is the Veil?

No one really knows for sure.
The Veil is the name given to a mysterious, seemingly natural occurrence in the Realm of Mystas. So it is written, once long ago the realm had no magical presence, and little to no life. One day an event known as "The Piercing" occurred and the Veil invaded the realm. It is believed by most scholars this event occurred before the history of Dominion was written, and that the Veil may very well be the source of all magic in the realm. No one can agree on the origin of the Veil or the events which led to it entering our realm but its effects are still being felt in every corner of the land.

The Ridden

Also called Veil-Ridden, these are places in the realm soaked with highly potent magical energies. Ridden areas are dangerous for most to tread as the magic here is potent enough to warp and mutate anything it touches. Extended stays in Ridden areas can cause long term effects in living beings, animals, plants and even the earth itself. Ridden areas are avoided because of while they can grant great boons incredible power to some, they can also infect and greatly damage others. Ridden zones occur where the Veil pierces into Mystas, and new Ridden areas appear from time to time in unpredictable locations.

The Ascended and the Keepers

The Ascended, the Children of the Veil, The Keepers, there are many names for those chosen by the Veil's power. While many are given sickness and death by the Ridden, some are fortunate enough to receive its blessing and inherit the power of the gods. The original name for these beings were the Children of the Veil, and they were the subject of deep study for a long period of time. Eventually two groups of the Children emerged from this power, The Keepers of Mystas and the Ascended. The keepers were an order of heroes made up of the Children of the Veil, who travelled the realm using their powers for great deeds. The Ascended however came to be known for darker deeds and a more neutral stance on power. The Ascended are solitary beings who use the Veil for their own gains and are often feared by the realm. To this day new Keepers and Ascended are born into Mystas, for good or evil they exist and decide the fates of all.

The breach of awe, the power so great, A-changing our lives our hearts our fate,

The Night the Veil pierced Mystas.

Dark deeds evoke, great leaders rise, the keepers of her spirit some loved, despised, Our waking night gives way to new, awake and proud the many and few, To war to futures loud and true, a path blazed bright with heavens blue,
The Day the Veil Claimed Mystas.
