The Draconian Alliance
Who are the Draconians?
The Draconians are an alliance of Dragons and Dragon-like beings that call Dominion their home. All Draconians are loyal to Apothus, speak draconic and are typically either a reptilian race or one that they call friend. The Draconian Alliance was founded after the original home of the dragons (which the younger races named Drakovia) sank into the sea. Apothus welcomed his brethren of wing and scale to Dominion, creating a sanctuary for his people. The alliance was formed when the humans, elves, dwarves and other races sought the wealth and resources of this untapped northern land. The Draconian Races
Apothus and the Orcs
During the early years of the Dragon Wars when invaders came in droves to reap the land of its resources and magic, all besides the draconic races were banished from the continent by pain of death. In the southern kingdoms war raged on between the humans, elves and the orcs. The orcs, outnumbered and lacking the technology of the other races they were fighting, soon found themselves losing their homeland, eventually being pushed into the sea. After a long journey north the remaining Orc tribes landed on Dominion and found themselves, as in most other places, unwelcome. As a last resort the leaders of the tribes pleaded for mercy, not wishing to die to a new foe. They were given an ultimatum by Apothus... rid the land of any who are not Draconian, and be granted sanctuary and welcome. A pact was forged and true to their word, the Orcs attacked and slaughtered any who landed on Dominion for nearly a century. Through their unwavering loyalty, the Orcs and Draconians became fast friends and allies and so the Orc's found themselves a new home in the sanctuary of Apothus. This pact stands to this day, and the Orcs are still the only not reptilian race that is allowed to call Dominion home.
The Dragon Wars
The first Dragon War is often called "The Great Dwarven Heresy" by the Draconians. After the sanctuary was founded, there was peace and only dragons and dragon-like races could call Dominion home. The land was peaceful until a different race emerged from the Deep. The tunneling dwarves reached Dominion through the underdark and were the first to discover it. Not knowing its purpose, they began digging wherever they liked and once discovered were visited by Dragons loyal to Apothus, who asked them to leave their home in their native tongues. Not knowing Draconic, the Dwarves simply attacked the beasts assuming them hostile. This began the first Dragon War. The dwarves eventually were routed and forced to retreat back into the underdark. Having permanently scarred the land, the dwarves were the first race ever banished from DominionThe second to discover the realm were the elves, who came in peace. The first elves to reach Dominion were the Drow, who heard of the land from the dwarves. Those loyal to the goddess Eilestraee believed it to be their promise land and their freedom from the oppressive Lolth worshippers who saw them as heretics. Peaceful as they were, they were welcomed by Apothus who gave them sanctuary in exchange for a promise of worship and trust between their races. Soon after the other elves arrived by sea seeking new knowledge and discoveries. Inquisitive High elves studied the land and its strange magic. After the Piercing, Dominion was a land most touched by the magic of the Veil and this energy drew the most scholarly of their race. They established the Dream Tower and founded a city, but soon wished to learn more about the lands ruler. Arrogant and Cocky, they reached Dragonstone and demanded Apothus' power. The Godking refused and so the second Dragon War began. The elves stormed Eastern Dominion with huge armies and magical weapons, scorching the land and slaying many Draconians. When all hope was lost, Apothus took to the skies for the first time since the land was founded, and in one single day, the elven armies were eliminated. This war created the Thousand Scars as it is known today, a dark cursed land of ash and bones. When the dust had settled the only remaining elves were the Drow of Eilestraee, who refused to fight the one who had granted them sanctuary from their oppressors. For this act of loyalty, they were allowed to remain in Dominion, but all other elves were banished from the land.
Around three hundred years later, Humans discovered Dominion by oceanic expedition. At this time tales told of a land of untapped riches to the north, cursed and ridden with dragon and orc. The bravest and mightiest of all humankind set sail for this land in search of the ultimate adventure, and when they landed... they were greeted by generations of Orc warriors, looking to spill blood in the name of the Godking. The third Dragon War began this way, without a single dragon getting involved. The first humans to land were slaughtered instantly, but they kept coming every year more and more until eventually the Orcs began to lose their fight. As the races of men brought more powerful weapons and magic they eventually managed to colonize central Dominion and establish a few fortifications. Now drawing the eye of the Draconians, the humans were assaulted from the west by Orcs and the east by Apothus' kin. For a hundred years they fought for the right to call the land home, the Archon and Arlesians sending wave after wave of men to their deaths in the name of conquest and glory. Eventually a pact was formed in the southern kingdoms, as elves and dwarves joined the fray, seeking to reclaim what they had lost centuries before. The numbers now equal, the Draconians had no choice but to launch an all out assault on the races invading their lands. This became known as the Battle of Swordhill, as it took place around Fort Swordhill in the eastern lands. Human, Elf and Dwarf barricaded and fortified the structure to the point that no weakness was left unchecked, but all of it didn't matter when the Elder Dragon known as Redwing joined the fight, smashing the eastern wall in a single strike. The armies battled for four days and four nights until only a few remained on both sides. Both sides unwilling to fight any longer moved to the center of the fort and thrust their weapons into the dirt. This symbolic act struck a soft peace between man and draconian and the end of the Third Dragon War.
A treaty was drafted and Humans, Elves and all other races were allowed to settle in Dominion, so long as they abided by the laws of the Godking. They agreed and for the first time in hundreds of years, Dominion was at peace. That was... until a human named Elrich crowned himself king...
