Amagic
To be amagical, otherwise known as manaless, is to have no affinity whatsoever with mana or magic, meaning that one afflicted with this condition cannot practice magic even with the aide of a crystal.
An amagic is functionally cut off from mana, meaning that they cannot cast spells nor activate mana crystals. This utter lack of mana, though, is also believed to render one immune to certain magic-related effects.
Detection spells utilized for tracking or security function by alerting their user to disturbances caused by the natural interference of one's own mana with that of the spell. Theoretically, an amagic could walk straight through the spell's area of effect and remain completely undetected as they have no mana to trigger an interference with.
In a similar vein, anti-magic concoctions derived from Dusk Bloom are known to have numerous side-effects for individuals exposed to them even if they aren't magical practitioners. The current belief is that even non-practitioners possess enough mana to feel mild effects such as dizziness, headaches, and nausea when exposed. As with detection spells, some pose that an amagic could withstand exposure with little to no symptoms due to their lack of mana.
Transmission & Vectors
Amagic is believed to be a hereditary trait, passed down from parent to child. While treated as the norm, this theory does not account for outliers who are deemed manaless despite having no known family history of the affliction. This has lead some to conclude that the condition is either a mutation or a recessive trait that can potentially lay dormant for generations.
Some have simply dismissed the notion, posing that relatives may have hidden their amagical status and thus created a false negative in regards to family history. While many do consider this stance to be dismissive, the theory itself has not been entirely disregarded given societal pressures regarding the condition.
Symptoms
Physically, there are no known discernable signs differentiating an average person from one who is amagical.
A person is determined to be manaless if they fall to have any reaction to magical stimuli. A total inability to conjure spell or use mana crystals are considered signs of amagic.
Treatment
There is no know treatment for reversing amagic in a person.
This has not stopped some from attempting to grant magic to themselves or another. However, such attempts have only ever lead to a waste of time and resources in the best of cases and tragic injury in the worst.
Cultural Reception
In more traditional circles where greater emphasis is placed on magic and the ability to use it, being known as an amagic is often seen as a significant mark against not only a person, but also potentially their family. It is not unheard of for families in such cases to disown a member should they be found to be afflicted or attempt questionable treatments in the hopes of undoing the damage.
Inversely, more moderate groups treat the condition much more casually with some even arguing the unique benefits that come with being amagical.
