Missionary

Traveling priests sent across and outside of the Kingdom of Eloir to help spread the doctrine of the Eternal Dawn.

Career

Qualifications

For a priest to be selected for missionary work, they must demonstrates adequate knowledge not just of Eternal Dawn doctrine and scripture, but also of how to help develop and nurture their flocks.    As such, they must be respectable, demonstrating of good teaching and leadership skills, and amenable to outside cultures.

Career Progression

While not a requirement, missionary work has been a common way for those in the Church to prove their worth and work their way up the ranks of the institution.

Other Benefits

Similar to those who enlist in either the Kingdom's military or the Church's order of knights, a common draw is potential to travel the Eloir and beyond as part of their evangelical missions.    For those with more of an eye on moving up the ranks of the Church, missionary work is often seen as a solid stepping stone in building up their experience and reputation.

Perception

Purpose

The goal of every missionary is to spread the Eternal Dawn's doctrine and assist with building a healthy community as ordained.

Social Status

Domestically, missionaries are fairly well respected, their profession seen as a demonstration of their dedication to the Church and her followers.   Beyond the Kingdom's borders, though, their role becomes a bit more complicated. Given the close ties between the Eternal Dawn and the rule of Eloir, missionaries have an added diplomatic role when traveling abroad. Some Regional Lords try to take advantage of this and fund expeditions beyond their borders in an effort to build better relations.   In less welcoming circles, these efforts are taken at more than face value. Some have accused of such missionaries as acting as spies for Eloir.

Operations

Provided Services

Missionaries rarely travel alone. Instead, they find transport with merchant caravans, military companies, and Order knights.   The latter is especially common in missionary work done outside of the Kingdom and in potentially hostile environments such as the Beastkin territories.

Dangers & Hazards

As with any traveling profession, missionaries must be vigilant of dangers while on the road. Bad weather, disease, and bandits are all very real threats to be wary off.    The risks of traveling are usually offset by having a missionary travel as part of a group as mentioned above, but that has not stopped numerous souls from being lost while seeking to do their work.
