Talabre (ta-la-braa)
Originally an elven settlement, Talabre has become a major outpost for the northern regions of the Kingdom of Eloir as well as an archaeological site for studying elven culture.
Demographics
Originally, the city seems to have been home to the Tenebran elves, a sub culture believed to have been invested in scholarly research and the study of illusion magic.
Following The Age of Dusk and the extinction of the elves as a species, the city has become the center for trade in the north as well as an archaeological hotspot for scholars seeking to research the Tenebran and elven culture in general.
Defences
Despite its age and time spent abandonedt, Talabre remains one of most defendable settlements in all of Eloir. The walls surround the city provide excellent defense from both invading forces as well as the elements. Inside said walls, inscriptions have even been found, believed to have been some sort of magical protection added to the structure.
Industry & Trade
Talabre is a major trading hub for the region given its access to the Wynstone mountain range and the local ore mines.
History
As with the disappearance of elves in general from Dormelia, little is known about how or why the Tenebran people came to leave the city. Murals and other records found within the city dating back to the estimated time when it became abandoned make mention of a "lifeless night", leading scholars to theorize that the elven inhabitants knew about the Age of Dusk and were seeking a way to stop or defend against it.
Following the Age of Dusk and the establishment of Kingdom of Eloir, expeditions were made to scout out regions for resources. For the northern mountains, the hope was to find sites for mining iron and quarrying stone to help fuel the growing kingdom. What was found were the surprisingly well preserved ruins of Talabre.
The city was soon after claimed by the kingdom and became an outpost for the region, quickly attracting tradesmen and scholars alike.
Points of interest
Despite its remote location and harsh climate, or possibly because of the latter, the city is one of the most well preserved elven settlements found thus far in the kingdom. So much so that after pressure from the multitude of scholars and historians interested in the city, it became so that all mining operations in the region were legally required to have an archaeologist on hand in case any artifacts were discovered while mining.
Climate
Being so far up north, Talabre and the region surrounding it are subject to fairly harsh winters with temperate summers.
