The Founding Myth for Dragons ((DRAY-nah))

This is the creation myth for the western dragons.

Summary

Long ago, everything was the same. The plants were the same and the animals were the same. Even the world was surrounded by a thick, gray mist. Magik still flowed, but it was blocked off by thick, tall walls made of stone. It could not reach the world and it's creatures.   But one day, a part of the wall cracked opened a little and the Magik began to gush out like a geyser. So it created a river that flowed throughout the world, soaking into the ground and eventually absorbed by the plants. The Magik changed the plants; some turned into plants with a single leaf, while others became huge encased by thick bark. Some of these plants even bore delicious fruit.   At first, the creatures of the world did not know what to do with these new plants, until the Worm suggested they should eat it. All the animals laughted at this, but the Worm was not dettered. Instead he thought that if the Magik changed the plants, than perhaps it could change him?   So the Worm wiggled over to drink the flowing Magik. Sure enough, it gave him six legs, large eyes and clear wings. The animals watched in amazement as the once burrowing Worm flew up to the fruit and began chewing on it. With this, the other animals began to drink the Magik as well, turning into insects, fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals, and everything in between, all so to indulge in the fruit.   Eventually, when the creatures saw that there wasn't enough fruit to go around, some of them began to prey on the other animals. And those other animals used the Magic to evade the predators, and then the predators used it to better catch the prey, and so on.   This went one for a while, until one day, a she-beast decided that she was going to be the greatest predator of all, and that every creature would be her prey. So she followed the Magik river to its source and drank heavily from the crack.   As the Magik flowed into her, the she-beast's body began to grow, her skin changed into great scales, her arms enormous wings, her legs powerful, her claws curved and sharp, her mouth filled with jagged teeth and her head crowned by twisting horns.   Once the she-beast was satisfied, she called herself Wyverna and, to make sure no one else would use the Magik to stop her, blocked the crack with stone so it was never flow again. Then, she began her reign of terror.   She and her kin gorged themselves on the land, depleting the world's resources and leaving the animals on the brink of starvation. The creatures tried to stop her, by land, by water and by air, but each time the wyverns escaped by switching between the three realms. There was no creature that could traverse through all three, at least not one that was strong enough.   The animals were about to give up hope, until one day, a Bat excitedly explained that he had found a small pool of Magik deep inside his cave. If they drank from it, they could use it to change into a creature to stop Wyerna. But this pool is extremely hard to get to and so far only the Bat was able to reach it.   This did not stop the animals; all of them raced to the cave and dove in. Unfortunately, most did end up getting lost in the darkness and among giant cracks that swallowed them up. In the end, only the Tiger, the Snake, and the Eagle managed to get to the pool.   It is there that they decided to use the Magik to combine their bodies to create a guardian against Wyverna and her kind. Through this, the four creatures became one; an animal with a body of a tiger, the scales and head of a snake, the talons and keen eyes of a eagle, and the wings and dark vision of a bat.   The creature, calling itself Draena, then began to hunt down the wyverns. As she was now able to stalk, swim, and fly through the three realms with her new powers, Draena made quick work destroying the monsters and their numbers fell.   The slaughter of her kin set Wyverna into a rage, and she started to this new creature.   Here, she came up with a plan; she led the great wyvern deep into the cave, looped around and caused a rock slide to trap the wyvern. She succeeded with Mother Wyvern pinned by rocks and only her snout sticking out of the cave.   With their mother trapped, the wyverns lost heart and were slaughtered. When only a few wyverns were left, Wyverna cried out to spare her children. Draena agreed to stop, on the condition that her hatchlings would become so violent and stupid that they'll eventually destroy themselves before they destroy others. With the agreement struck, Mother Wyvern was released but continued to live in the cave, never flying again.   After this, the dragoness taught how to defeat the wyverns using cunning and magic.
