The Charred Plains

The Charred Plains stand as a chilling reminder of calculated destruction and military strategy. Once a fertile expanse teeming with life, this landscape was forever altered during one of King Vendrick: From Modest Beginnings to a Monumental Legacy campaigns against the Rotten Lord- origins and ascent. Finding it difficult to penetrate the unique swamp defenses of the Rotten Lord's domain, Vendrick sought an alternative approach to break the stalemate. Realizing the plains were susceptible to fire during an unusually hot and dry summer, Vendrick ordered a planned ignition of the land. The flames roared across the plains, swallowing everything in their path and filling the sky with a smoky haze. This massive fire and the ensuing smoke disrupted the Rotten Lord's defenses, obscuring vision and making it difficult for his forces to breathe, let alone fight. The tactic proved effective, allowing Vendrick to capitalize on the chaos and quickly secure a victory after a series of failed sieges.   Now, the Charred Plains are a scorched, ashy wasteland that stands in stark contrast to the lush swamp of the Rotten Lord's other territories. Over time, new life forms have started to reclaim the bleak landscape, but the blackened trees and barren soil serve as an enduring symbol of the cost of war.   For Vendrick and his military, the Charred Plains became an uncomfortable but accepted part of their history, a difficult decision that led to a crucial victory. For the rest of the Draconic Kingdom, however, the plains remain a haunting example of how the drive for conquest can permanently scar both the land and the collective memory of its people.
