Devlin Songweaver trained as a city watchman, learning the law and fighting skills.  After graduation from the Watch Academy he took the streets to patrol and protect the citizens in the market.  The daily routine of dealing with beggars and cutpurses quickly weighed heavily upon Devlin, and he longed for opportunities to apply his skills in other professions.  Not seeking a fortune as an wayward adventurer, but seeking challenges beyond the routine, he ran across an opportunity to become the bodyguard for a travelling bard and her troupe of performers.  That bard was Braelynne. Some routine remained, dealing with thieves, beggars, and the like, but also at times to act as enforcer and collector when less than reputable merchants and operators would attempt to cheat or outright refuse to fulfill their side of the contracts.  This kept Devlin busy and satisfied with opportunities to use more than his sword. While starting out strictly professional, life on the road takes its turns, and his relationship with Braelynne, grew into respect, friendship, and eventually they fell in love. Devlin has a sister, Rennara Anarra Songweaver, with whom he is very close and occasionally travels with Devlin and Braelynne when on a tour.
