Karinshae Bell Towers

Throughout the Karinshae continent a series of bell towers is organized by the Watch and Care Guild. The guild trains and manages assignments of individuals who are responsible for conveyance of messages through the use of the tower's bell. The guild oversees the placement (for towns and settlements over 100 people) and the construction of each tower. Towers are built on the primary windward side of town. For larger settlements and cities, where multiple towers may be erected, towers are built to allow their audible messages to be heard with the greatest amount of coverage to the area.

The bells in the bell tower are used to convey messages to those who are within earshot. A standard code is used for the conveyance of said messages. The Watch and Care Guild has created and continues to expand on a standard set of messages and meanings. The guild is small and has only one school to train is members, theough the curriculum is actually quite short (three months) and runs four sets of classes per year. Each tower has three members assigned, to ensure the bell is managed at all times.

The bell tower also consists of several levels of windows that can be used to augment the audible bell tones with lights to augment the messages that can be conveyed. The bell towers are built to a height of 100 feet and actually contain multiple bells of standardized sizes to produce distinct tones. It is the coordinated ringing of these bells that allows the greatest number of messages to be conveyed.

Time of day messages and other common, often daily occuring messges use relatively smaller, higher pitched bells, where as the larger bells with deeper tones are used when a semblance of urgency or emergency need to be sent.
