Phandalin

Nestled in the rocky foothills of the snow-capped Sword Mountains is the mining town of Phandalin, which consists of forty or fifty simple log buildings. Crumbling stone ruins surround the newer houses and shops, showing how this must have been a much larger town in centuries past. Phandalin’s residents are quiet, hard-working folk who came from distant cities to eke out a life amid the harsh wilderness. They are farmers, stonecutters, blacksmiths, traders, prospectors, and children. The town has no walls and no garrison, but most of the adults keep weapons within easy reach in case the need for arms should arise.   Visitors are welcome here, particularly if they have coin to spend or news to share. The Stonehill Inn at the center of town offers modest lodging and meals. A couple of doors down from the inn, posted outside the townmaster’s hall, is a job board for adventurers.

Government

Harbin Wester is the currently elected Townmaster. The role seems to include managing the city budget, enforcing building codes, and delegating dangerous tasks to outsiders.

Defences

The town has no walls or noted defense. A new defense tower is being added to the belltower of the Townmaster's Hall, the tallest building in town under the watchful eye of Halia Thornton. It is in early stages of construction with Factore only recently providing schematics for the foundation while still working out the theoretical problems behind an enormous mounted rotating crossbow. Smith  is helping with the project, but may need more raw materials.

Industry & Trade

Barthen's Provisions and a few local craftspeople cater to most needs of this small settlement and the outlying small farmsteads. Off the main trade routes, supplies are limited but there is a branch of the Lionshield Trading Coster. The economy is heavily dependent on the Mountain's Toe Gold Mine, small time prospectors who utilize the Phandalin Miner’s Exchange as a hub, and loggers in the Neverwinter Wood.
