Origins
The appearances of Bio-Androids in the 'verse have largely been dependent on outstanding circumstances, runaway scientific experiments, or in some cases unforeseen disasters. They are a known phenomenon and often a threat to sentient life, but like the Djinn's of the galaxy, their cause for creation is difficult to pinpoint or predict. Bio-Androids are less of a shared ancestry belonging to a species of beings, as they are a 'type' or 'category' of being whose thirst to kill and evolve towards perfection is a driving force of their sentience.
Bio-Androids are (most often) singular beings bearing no shared connection or origin towards one another. They can take many forms, some nearly indistinguishable from other races in the galaxy, and there have been notable examples of willing or unwilling species being transformed into a Bio-Android from whatever they once were.
Perhaps it is a side-effect of their shifting evolutionary genomes, or a blessing to their prey, but no matter how a Bio-Android is created or comes to be, they can rarely hide in plain sight without effort. Their forms often become monstrous over time or simply "too strange" to remain 'passable' as an ordinary member of the galaxy, often leading to the hunter becoming the hunted.
Modern Era
In the modern era there are a handful of notable examples of Bio-Android "colonies" such as the symbiotes of the Mithria Asteroid, or the "Husk" androids born to Insignia V during one of its reclamation periods that live within its razorwire jungles.
These two groups of Bio-Android are some of the few who have proven resilient enough to survive the many purges spear-headed to eliminate them, and some of the only known Bio-Androids who can replicate themselves to be considered their own separate classification.
Cultural Keystones
Following many tragic events throughout the eras caused by such beings, nearly every galactic superpower has unanimously outlawed the creation of Bio-Androids, or experiments with similar intentions. Even inventions such as self-replicating nano-machines or biological experiments to adjust or manipulate the genome of a species fall under extreme scrutiny by planetary governments and their scientific bodies. Which is not to say that such experiments do not take place, simply that anyone interested in the topic must keep their research secretive.
One notable "outlaw" wanted in many quadrants of the galaxy for such experiments is the mysterious Dr. Odner who has been credited towards a number of recent Bio-Androids in the past few decades.
