Origins
Following the last great Saiyan crusades more than two-hundred years ago, many displaced veterans of those wars had been left to lick their wounds on planet Earth where their conquest and appetite for battle had finally been satiated. Unable to return home for some time in the aftermath that followed, the Saiyan women and men that had remained behind as prisoners of war or simply the wounded found that they and the Earthlings shared more similarities than differences. More than even they knew at first. More than anyone could have guessed even based on their appearances.
It doesn't take much imagination to explain the origin of the "Halfbreed". Saiyans and Humans, to everyone's surprise, were genetically compatible. These things happen.
But even the term, "Halfbreed" is a slang-term that was originally quite derogative. These two species had just fought a bitter conflict, and now there were unexpected leftovers of that conflict long after the enemy had gone. They were unwanted reminders of everything won and lost. Tiny, cute, reminders, but reminders none-the-less, and they would grow up, and no one at that time knew what to expect or want from them.
They were not treated kindly, or fairly. Neither were their guardians, especially those rare few Saiyans who decided they would stay on Earth to raise them. There is and still remains tension, apprehension, and outspoken hatred towards the Halfbreeds of the 'verse from those who remember Vegeta at its height of conquest.
Afterall, they are the "youngest" ancestry to enter into the galactic opera. And in a universe full of beings who have shaped worlds and built shining civilizations before they ever plowed the stars, the Halfbreeds are the only ancestry who have had to endure those mighty empires changing their literal diapers before they could even begin deciding who they were, or what they brought to the stage of Infinity.
A people caught between two ways of life. Displaced in every way imaginable by having the unfortunate luck of being born on the forefront of conflict. The Halfbreeds walk a hard road… and the first generation did indeed walk the hardest.
But in spite of this, in spite of their unusual origin, the Halfbreeds were… blessed? Blessed with what can only be described as a genetic philosopher's stone, something that scientists in the present day have no true explanation for. Halfbreeds almost always exhibit unbelievable potential in whatever path they eventually set themselves on. Whether it is martial prowess, scientific pursuits, or artistic endeavors, it's hard to deny that Halfbreeds are quick to master anything that they make their ambition to master. By some marvel of their own, the combination of Saiyan and Human DNA is quickly beginning to create a race of savants and prodigies that will undoubtedly change the course of history in years to come.
They may be the youngest members of this opera, and they may have had to endure the worst beginnings, but those conditions created something truly special, endearing, and even unifying.
But only time will tell how their unexpected arrival will shape the 'verse in eras to come.
Modern Era
Having no true point of origin of their own, Halfbreeds are some of the most likely candidates to explore the stars and settle in new locations. There are small conclaves of Halfbreeds beginning to appear on many worlds, and space stations throughout the galaxy. If home cannot be a place, then it must be a people instead. The largest populations of Halfbreeds still call Earth their home, of course, particularly Sector Eight where the final conflict between the Saiyans and Earthlings ended, but it's not uncommon to meet one somewhere on the roads of the wider galaxy. Especially in the highways of the stars.
Cultural Keystones
Halfbreeds are, due to their struggles, some of the most welcoming and accepting folk to encounter in the 'verse.
They're the type to build "families" with those that share their interests, and passions, regardless of their origin. They have a gentle, but fiery nature, and a desire to prove themselves as capable, and competent.
