Roleplay Logs & Roleplay Points

Roleplay Logs:

Before you begin roleplaying on Dragonball: Infinity you will need to familiarize yourself with our forums: dbinfinity.gamingrendo.com You can locate information for registering as a new user for the forums on MUD by typing help forum in-game.   How to Colorize Logs
The forums are where we post text logs of the roleplays that we engage with on the CHAT and RolePlay channels. A post by one of our players can be found here that details how to convert html code from your MUDclient into BBC code so that the log can be posted in color. For those players using MUSHCLIENT, we also have a Plugin which can automatically convert copied text into HTML code for beautiful full color logs.   Recording
It's important to determine who is going to keep the log before you begin a roleplay. Do not assume the other player will do so. There's no worse feeling that completing a long roleplay session only to discover there's no record!
The adminstrative staff encourages roleplayers to include a "Synopsis" of the roleplay at the top of their roleplay logs. This is a brief introduction that lists the characters, and npcs involved; the type of roleplay that was conducted; and a brief summary of the events in question. A synopsis is useful for other players who wish to briefly skim the forums and learn a little bit about current events, or to entice them to read deeper into your stories.   Example of a Synopsis   Characters: Admin, NPC
Type: Article
Synopsis: This roleplay document details the process for creating roleplay logs, explains the points system, and criteria for receiving rewards!
  Solo Roleplays
While roleplays are encouraged by the staff to take place on the CHAT and RolePlay channels and to involve other characters, roleplay logs can be written as stand alone, episodic stories in addition to being broadcast and copy/pasted from the CHAT channel to our forums. These roleplays are often referred to by veteran roleplayers as "solos" and are a great way to tell a deeper, more personalized story in a less constrictive form. However, roleplay admins discourage relying on this form of storytelling as an absolute means to advancing your character's narrative.   Reflection
After you have submitted a roleplay log to the DBI forums, an adminstrator will review the piece and award different types of RPP dictated by the events of the story that is told. Because roleplay on DBI is a long term investment, roleplay admins encourage new roleplayers to take their time when producing their work. Spend those extra few minutes to review your draft for grammatical mistakes and other errors, as well as think about the content and the goal of the piece you're submitting. Many veteran roleplayers have spent years on the channel telling the stories of their character and never reached the final tiers of the roleplay system here. Your character's journey is not a race, and while we do encourage a 'competitive' spirit, the competition is not about becoming the strongest on the channel but rather becoming a better writer and creating pieces of fiction that inspire your fellow players.   We encourage new roleplayers to consider looking at their characters from a critical lens as you're crafting these stories. Great questions to ask yourself before you begin a new story is to ask:
  • What is the purpose of the roleplay?
  • Does this advance my overall arc as a character?
  • Does this roleplay introduce new elements to an already existing story?
  • Does this roleplay tell the reader more about my character's goals, their ambitions, or give them greater insight into my character's philosophy?
  • Do any of the choices I've made or will make in this story seem out of character based on my previous actions, deeds or choices?
  • Have I included the necessary elements to make an interesting story? (Setting, Character, Theme, Plot, Conflict, Tone, Style)
Once you have completed your roleplay, some final questions you might want to ask yourself may simply be, "Did I have fun writing this piece?" While that might seem obvious to most roleplayers, even veterans on the channel can experience burn out or find themselves wading through an arc they're dissatisfied with. When you feel this emotion about your writing, take a break and examine what about the story is making you feel that way and then tackle the next piece with that insight. There's nothing preventing you from leaving loose threads and returning to an arc later, or skipping through sections that aren't interesting as long as the story is told in an interesting way.

Roleplay Points (RPP)

Roleplay on Dragonball: Infinity uses a currency system called "RPP," or roleplay points. You can acquire these points simply by Roleplaying and posting a text log of that roleplay on our forums in order for it to be reviewed by our RP Admins. RPP comes in three different types.

Red RPP:

This is rewarded when a character does something that will improve his or her combat potency (or whatever pillar that character is based around. Talk to RP Admins about alternatives to combat). This currency is used to determine your character's Tier IRP, which is automatically calculated by the MUD,

Green RPP:

This is rewarded for almost every RP you do, more so in RPs that hold little or no combat. This type of RPP has no active effect, but it is compiled with your Red RPP in order to calculate your Spendable RPP, which will now be explained.

Spendable RPP:

Also referred to as "Grey RPP" this currency can be used to buy a multitude of things. In the RPverse, it could be used to purchase such things as minions, a ship, or even an expansive base of operations. In the Game, it can be used to buy gold, gear, and enhanced gains for the entire MUD.

Awarding Points / Criteria

After your roleplay has been posted to the forums please allow the administrative staff adequate time to review the log (1-2 weeks). While we do our best to review these in a prompt manner, we are human and have responsibilities both inside and outside of the game. If a significant amount of time has passed without your roleplay being reviewed, you can contact an admin using the personal note gboard on the MUD.
While each adminstrator that reviews logs posted to the forums may have their own personal preferences, and expections, roleplayers on Dragonball: Infinity can be assured that a general guideline of criteria is used in order to determine the amount of roleplay points that should be awarded based on the skill, and prose delivered by the writers involved.   RPP is awarded in a 1-5 scale per color under general circumstances, and a 1-10 scale during special events (I.E. the maximum number of points possible to receive for a roleplay log outside of a roleplay event is 5 Green, and 5 Red RPP). The adminstrative staff wishes to make that criteria 'public' in order for players to understand the guidelines, and considerations which we have agreed upon. Bare in mind that this not an exhaustive list, and could change over time.   Green RPP

  • Did the Roleplay progress the overall story?
  • Did the Roleplay express character growth, or regression?
  • Was the story told in an interesting, unexpected, or fun way?
  • If the character(s) involved in the roleplay were injured, did those injuries appear to hold narrative weight?

  • Did the combat / training in the roleplay occur for narratively significant reasons, or did it feel 'forced' / unwarranted?
