Yondai

ORIGINS

The mysterious Yondai have long dwelt on the outer rim of the west galaxy, though have chosen to remain secluded from the 'verse and the wider galactic opera of the eras as they pursued the noble arts pertaining to the mastery and balance of the elements. Their homeworld, Relok, is a 'conduit' world, similar in many regards to Kanassa where the energies of discharged celestial power coalesce following numerous cataclysmic events.
One such event, the Rage of the Elements, saw Relok's surface torn asunder beneath the might of the primal energies. Typhoons, tsunamis, blistering volcanic eruptions, and massive earthquakes left the world nearly lifeless and its features made anew. It was during this apocolyptic era and the dark times that followed it that the Yondai began to study the arts necesarry to control the powers that proved capable of ravaging their homeworld and thus their discipline and deep suclusion in the mastery of their arts began. To control all of the elements was a feat few Yondai could ever strive to achieve, but to master one (perhaps two) became the goals for their society. From the ashes of the Elemental destruction they raised temples, monasteries and new cities while dedicated themselves to this balance for both their own survival, and perhaps a greater purpose.
For upon the horizon, even in those days, they understood that something... something must be the cause of this imbalance and they alone may have to stand against it.
A fifth element?

MODERN ERA

It is only extremely recently that the Yondai have opened themselves to the arrival of outsiders. This shift in culutural perspective being tied to the threat of the Fifth Element, which their sages have begun to sense premonitions of. It is time for the Yondai to both explore the galaxy, and allow others to learn the arts they have cultivated so secretly. They are anxious, but happy to engage in new arrivals... but having been cut off from the politics and the great militiristic opera of the ages there are many who fear that their world is doomed to simply become a footstool of the Icerian Empire like so many other emerging worlds.

CULTURAL KEYSTONES

The Yondai's civilization is very regressed with very few convieniences that one might expect in the modern era. In terms of technology, their scientists and engineers have only barely reached the capability of light speed travel. While their world may not be a mecca of technology such as Earth, or Insignia V, it is one of artistry born of dedication and generational endurance. If there were a quote to sum up the mentality of the Yondai it is simply that "Now that you know you are not perfect, you can be good."
