Basic setting of Dragonhearted.
Set in the traditional knights and dragons time, this world is filled with hidden kingdoms, menacing evil, and secrets galore. Of course, magic is essential, and is both a weapon and a tool for good--as well as hiding some secrets of its own.
Uan Quinn has locked the whole continent in a war for 100 years over the existence of Dagonor, a nation of draglins--humans with dragon blood and extra powers--ruled over by six hosts of the six original dragons: Xaemon, Zerith, Fharu, Mirial, Nala, and Miki. Each dragon has an element, as does every draglin (although mixes are entirely possible). Quinn despises the dragons, and in his quest for revenge, decided that all-out war was the only option. Dagonor was scattered and wiped from the books, and memory of them faded with the help of a few spells.
Karasu, a Dark draglin, was born as the host to Xaemon. With Xaemon's memories being tampered with and incomplete, she must gather Dagonor, as the long-lost country with its powerful leaders and subjects is the only hope the Allies have of winning the war against Quinn. At least, that's what Karasu has been charged with--it remains to be seen if she'll accomplish her goal. Between a rock and a hard place, she has to continue her mission while being careful not to reveal a dark secret that would set her closest friends out for her blood.
Meanwhile, the nations hide bloody secrets of atrocities even worse than anything Quinn has done. Magic comes with a price, and true, powerful, lasting enchantments require a lot of magic. The Allied Nations are full of them, even if the secret to their creation has been lost.
