Emzúk Antelopes

Znagrúkic: Emzúk /ɛmzu:kh/
Gláðic: Aglá-am /aklau: a:m/
Emzúk antelopes1 are among the largest and most common herbivores found in the Ga River basin, a region in eastern Hrax in the southern Múlíat Mountains.
Unlike the larger sjerg antelope, which is common elsewhere in the southern highlands of Dragonía, emzúk antelopes need water daily and thus are commonly found in grazing and browsing in small herds along Ga River or its numerous tributaries. They are better swimmers than most of their kind, and prefer jumping into water and swimming to the other side to escape danger rather than abandon the river bank.

Cultural significance

Gláðs and to lesser extent Znagrúks living in the region hunt the antelopes for their meat, skins and horns, though the former are careful about which animals are hunted, as they believe that certain emzúk antelopes act as messengers of the creation deity and thus must not be harmed. Their hunters work closely with shamans, who keep detailed records of the state of the whole antelope population within the basin in order to identify the sacred ones.
While most Znagrúks don't think so highly of emzúk antelopes as Gláðs do, they are generally respectful enough to either hunt along the latter in the region or just let the Gláðs handle that business altogether in order to avoid conflicts.
