Palók Bushes
Palók bushes1 are common in Ela'k Forest and northeastern Jarrak Forest in western Dragonía. They are quite large, and bear clusters of small, dark red to almost black fruits during summer.
Additional Information
Domestication
The fruits of domesticated palók bushes are notably different, being slightly larger, with far less pulp but comparatively more seeds.
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Many Útels have a palók bush or two in their garden, not for their fruits -which have an unpleasantly sour taste- but the crescent-shaped seeds within. The seeds are ground into a sharp spice known simply as palók, which along with ólyn and varúan forms the basis of most spice mixtures in traditional Útel cuisine.
Palók is especially used in Kaiqonon in eastern Ela'k Forest, where it's used in large quantities in most dishes, almost (from outsiders' perspective) to the point of inedibility.
