Vipló Trees are native to
Jarrak Forest in western Dragonía, and are also grown in the region around Zaþil Lake in southern
Ela'k Forest. It bears light purple fruits with darker flesh during summer, which the
Zakerans (
Útels living around Zaþil Lake) traditionally add into wine to make
vipló'þil in addition to eating them fresh, cooked or dried.
Cultural significance
The vipló fruit has a special significance to many Útels, for it was cultivated in great numbers in Nanaþ'alinei, home of their culture hero
Ela'k. Since the fall of Nanaþ'alinei due to a devastating plague, and its subsequent separation from Ela'k Forest via the Reþokúl Wall millennia ago, many Útels see the trees as an important connection to the cradle of Útel civilization and Ela'k, and believe that eating the fruit, drinking vipló'þil or offering the wine as libation brings luck and long life.
