Drachen has been shaped into what it is today by a series of major events, which brought the end of the Age of Magic and the collapse of Magic as once existed. This timeline details the major events that have shaped Drachen's history.
Age of High Magic

With mages discovering more and more about the control of Leylines and how to shape and funnel magical energy into not only spells, but also into enchantments and invocations, the civilisations of the Old World enter the golden age now known as the Age of High Magic. Wizards continue to grow in power throughout this age until they have become the cornerstones of nations and empires across the whole of Drachen, most notably dominating much of the Eladrin Dominate, which emerges after the Dawn War as the most powerful single nation of the plane, opposed only by the Archfey of the Summer and Winter courts.

The Sundering
Disaster / DestructionThe Leylines, the Old World's source of arcane power, are severed by forces unknown. Magic becomes unstable, which has immediate effect on the nations of the Old World so reliant on its power. The resulting fallout causes the Old World to split into three planes, each a shadow of the Old World as it stood - these would become the Shadowfell, the Feywilds, and Drachen. Drachen itself is plunged into the Age of Darkness.
Age of Darkness

After the collapse of the Leylines during The Sundering and the subsequent nullification of magic that had once run so prevalent throughout Drachen, the world plummets into the Age of Darkness. Great nations and empires collapse without the magic they had relied on to sustain them, which, combined with the splintering of the Eladrin race into the Elves, leads to a mass downturn in civilization and technology. Huge amounts of historical artefacts are destroyed during this era.

The Years of Midnight
Era beginning/endDirectly after The Sundering is a decade-long span that sees Drachen spiral into decay, with many of its greatest empires collapsing nearly overnight. This initial period has come to be known as the 'Years of Midnight'.
