The Dragon flies low in the valley, artfully dancing through tight spaces and around outcroppings. Hugging the mountian as close as possible to avoid pinging his enemy's radar and ruining the surprise. He slows down and finds a perch to rest a moment. The valley seems to be empty of all activity.   It is too late when he notices the slight movement in the brush below. The LRRP (long-range reconnaissance patrol) that was lying in camouflaged positions have already warned the fortress of the impending danger and a squadron of fighters have been scrambled to intercept the attack. The Dragon catches only a single brief clear view of a member of the LRRP team. Its enough to ID them as a third party interferring in this war and his best remaining option is to abort the operation. His pride made this impossible.   The Orcs defending the fortress open fire with their cannons and machine guns, filling the sky with flak and bullets. The Dragon's only saving grace was his Warding Spell. He was so focused on the spell that he nearly crashed into the wall. Pulling up at the last second he doused the defenders with fire. The Orcs made the critical mistake of focusing entirely on the distraction. A horde of Dragonlings in a collection of trucks drove at fullspeed toward the walls. A few of these trucks were filled with explosives instead with their drivers bailing at the last second. Unfortunately for them, a pair of missiles fired from the inbound jets struck the Dragon and the beast fell from the sky. The Orcs were just barely able to wheel their defences around to blunt the assualt. Too little of the Dragonlings were able to make it to the fortress and were unable to prevail. The commander withheld the follow-up waves and ordered a full retreat, abandoning the commited forces to their fates.   The mercenaries were well paid for perpetuating the conflict by stopping the Draconic forces from having yet another victory. The Elven financier would make his money back tenfold selling weapons to both sides.
