The Statue of Miaphae is a marble-and-gold likeness of the Chaelian mythological figure Miaphae. The statue stands in Jacross in the Jindal Duchy. The story of Miaphae is one of heroism and tragedy, as the titular figure saved Jacross from a rampaging Dragon at the cost of her own life. The Statue of Miaphae depicts a young woman in flowing robes holding a hand to the sky.
Purpose / Function
The Statue of Miaphae serves to immortalize the popular myth of Miaphae and the Dragon. Although the origins of this story are unclear, it has been a common bedtime story for children since the turn to the Commonality Era. The sculptor of this statue elected to remain anonymous, and the statue itself was received as a donation to the city of Jacross.
Alterations
No, dearest, we can't go see the statue today. They're cleaning it, remember? They have to make sure the statue doesn't break.
The only alterations made to the structure are the cleaning procedures undertaken yearly. These procedures include a thorough washing with soapy water and an inspection for any cracks, tarnish, or other wear and tear. The statue is not moved for these procedures, but the area surrounding the statue is blocked off for the general public.
Tourism
People from all over the Jindal Duchy travel to see the statue for the supposed bravery it brings. They claim that the sight of the statue under the midday sun has the power to turn "wavering hearts bold and brave with the courage of Miaphae". In Jacross, it is tradition to visit the statue before one enters a contract. This is meant to show acceptance of the deal and of one's fate.
