Kjeldoran Guilds

The Royal houses are made up of Eternals born with an awakened mark. These marks grant innate magical powers based on the type of mark. After a noble leaves the academy, they will most likely go to the city that the main house is based in and join their family there. A noble is only entitled to their privileged status if they maintain their ties to the family. A rogue noble is a noble who operates independently from their house. While independent, a rogue noble may still carry a minor amount of influence within Kjeldor or other nations. Other houses may wish to lure a rogue noble to their side as a means of gaining leverage over or information about another house's activities.   Most of these houses have collaborated with each other to form a unified country that was designed to create homes and a safe, structured life for Shells. Houses M'aiq and Undelle have chosen to live separately from Kjeldor but still conduct trade and offer services with it's sibling nation. The majority of houses formed a system of guilds to create and manage jobs. To acquire a job within a guild, an individual must have a sponsor willing to back that person as a competent employee for the sort of job they seek. A sponsor can be either a noble or someone else in high standing. Typically the more well received the sponsor, the more likely the individual is to receive the job they apply for. A sponsor bares the title of Kyron where the one who is sponsored gains the title of Kadeem.   The amount of compensation a Kadeem receives is negotiated by their Kyron who also collects a cut of the Kadeem's earnings. There is some risk to a sponsor in the event the Shell commits a crime or causes major damage in the workplace. They will bare some of the responsibility of the Shell's actions should such an event occur. Because of this, sponsors are usually very strict about who they endorse. It is not uncommon for sponsor negotiations to include accommodating a family. Usually negotiations involving a family include housing and other arrangements.   A Kyron's reputation and connections largely determines whether a Kadeem will succeed in securing a contract or not. While in theory a Kyron could just acquire as many Kadeems as possible and just watch the money flow in. Eventually that Kyron would gain a reputation of having subpar Kadeems and have difficulty securing contracts for them in the future. Because of this, sponsors are strongly encouraged to only work with both trustworthy and competent Kadeems.   It is more common for a Kyron to at least be tied to a noble house or some other organization since it is easier to succeed by having a web of connections rather than remaining an independent Kyron.

A Solution For Some

With those who bare the title of Kyron usually being very strict with who they choose to take on as a Kadeem, this eventually led to a large amount of the population being unemployed as the population grew over the years. Despite being homeless, the provinces of Kjeldor are still seen as the safer places to live which results in those people choosing not to leave for other countries. Some areas of mostly barren land have been given to these communities of people as a method of keeping the homeless out of the larger cities. Certain cities, namely those that a noble house is based in, will not allow Shells that don't bare the title of Kadeem inside and also won't deal in trade with these lesser communities. These communities are also expected to pay for any protection that they request from the guilds. Payment is usually received in trade goods or services more often than coin.
