The Great Clash
The Great Clash
Long ago, the Eternals and their gods discovered the dark, sunless world of Draumur and attempted to forcefully immigrate, resulting in an all-out war between the gods of the Eternals and the primordials that served as Draumur's front line of defense as well as the world's rulers. What the gods hadn't anticipated was finding allies that sympathised with them and rebelled against the primordials, turning what was a losing battle into one that was more evenly matched fight. The gods had the metallic dragons on their side who rebelled against their creators Ogremoch and Imix. An adamantine dragon by the name of Fogotine took on the leadership of the metallic dragons. The war had ended with the deaths of all the gods and some of the primordials with the rest of the primordials being sealed away. With the dust finally settling, the Eternals took the new, alien world their gods died to give them and made it their home. They met a mixture of opposition from the native races still loyal to the now absent primordials and welcome from those glad to be free from their tyrannical rule. Though the war had ended, the struggles of the Eternals had only begun.Aftermath
Following the death of the gods, most of the sparks of Divinity (the source of attaining godhood) are thought to have merged with the world itself. The dead gods would take on a new form, becoming a fading vestige of their former selves. Clerics of these dead gods could still draw power from them until they faded away completely. In time, many gods would be forgotten and fade away, those with larger followings would survive through the ages. The few who managed to obtain one of these god sparks following the gods deaths would become an entry level deity called a Divine. Some of the first Divines would go on to become important figures throughout history. Some time after a vestige fades, that spark of Divinity eventually manifests somewhere on the material plane. A new Divine is created if someone manages to acquire this spark of Divinity. Strange and aggressive weather patterns can be a sign of a spark in the process of manifesting. Some believe that the vestige itself decides the location that the spark manifests in. The spark might show up in a hard to reach place such as the top of the highest mountain or deep beneath the ocean. A cleric of that fading god might be charged with temporarily holding that spark until they find one who they believe is worthy of inheriting this god's power. Those who have acquired Divine status gain untold power usually based on the beliefs and morals of that individual. The nature of Divinity is still largely unknown, but what is known for certain is Divines are no longer affected by the passage of time and as such, do not age. The manifestation of these sparks started what some call The War of Ascension, with Divines being the new generation of gods. However despite their new found powers, Divines still die as all mortals do when mortally wounded, leading to most Divines only briefly holding a position within the ever changing pantheon. Society as a whole continues to doubt this new generation and mostly defaults to worshipping the old gods or even primordials with a couple Divines serving as exceptions. Even with the old gods being long dead, most still put their faith in what they know. However, as more and more of the old gods fade into nothing, many have begun seeking new things to put their faith in.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
