Sinner's Blood

Long ago, there was a rebellion of revenant angels in Hallangar. Their leader was [REDACTED¹]; she took them to [REDACTED²] and started urging them through to Terra. Her plan was to damn as many angels as possible and to attempt to kill Spirit. Taking a weapon made of her own grace, she struck Spirit and was unsuccessful in killing the divine Protector. However, because of the Protector's immense love of her beings and their souls, she spared [REDACTED³] and cast her out of the reverie and to Terra with the others who left, taking their immortality instead of killing them. 

Spirit wanted them to strive to be better so she gave them an incentive.

"Live as just and pure beings and your blood will stay as white as milk. Sin and give in to the corruption of Terra and Draygar and watch your blood soil and turn red like the mortals. Commit evil and watch your blood blacken more than that of any demon."

The Curse

Solaris, who is Spirit, cursed all angels that fled during the second rebellion as a punishment. This curse entailed that all angels' blood would change color to reveal how devious they are. All children born to these second rebellion survivors would take on the trait as well, starting out milk-white and darkening as they sinned. Most of the angels' blood would shift to the same red as the humans and other beings with iron-based blood.
