Dr. Apophis Khalil
Amidst a small group of researchers, there is one in particular that sticks out. A dark-skinned, human man is crouched, examining a crystal, so engrossed in whatever observations he is making that he seems completely unaware of what is going on around him. Dr. Apophis Khalil was once a graduate student under the tutelage of Dr. Serene Valdove, but was recently hired as a professor at the Lark'Hal Institute of Magic & The Arts. He is very well-spoken, nice, charming, and poised, but also prone to launching into long-winded recounts of magical practices – often obscure and unheard of – that have piqued his interest. Such winding rants often seemed to be triggered by the oddest of comments or observations. His rants are certainly hard to follow, but not because of a use of academic jargon or complex explanation. Rather, it is just the sheer amount of information that he can provide out of nowhere that often leaves whoever he is speaking to, including his students on occasions, that leave them blank-faced and lost.
While not the strongest mage in terms of arcane power, Apophis has a breadth of knowledge as well as an eye for detail. His poor, fading vision has certainly hindered his ability to read, but it has granted him a unique perspective in other facets of his field. While he may no longer be able to make out words on paper clearly, he can see the strands of magic that pervade the world. Yet perhaps his most important role is facilitating the partnership between Dr. Valdove's arcane and divine spellcasting power and Prof. Dunebrook's historical and technical knowledge and practice.
