Session 56

General Summary

We All Need to Talk to Seven

The Deep End reunites after their 10 days of independence roaming the Coliseum. Moira spoke to Ghilani about Bonebreaker and, more specifically, how this angsty kid told her she shouldn't be allied with Bonebreaker... especially if she's a true cleric of Caliban. Ghilani, in return, recounted his stirring tale of how Bonebreaker dressed him in fancy garments, gold, and bones for a soiree and how he was toted about – quietly, as he was asked not to speak – so that he was always in view of the Prince Elect. And then he was asked to seduce the Prince Elect. Or, Rani could, as she's also the Prince Elect's type. Rani motioned to a flower in her hair, a gift from the Prince Elect. Bonebreaker did say she'd get Ghilani a meeting with Matron Seven and also warned him that she'd break all the bones in his leg if she got annoyed with him. Widow is exacerbated. Is this also not toxic?

Newt mentioned that he wants to speak to Matron Seven regarding having a weapon forged that would help him in hell and allow him to destroy the Goddess of Death. Rani hopes that Matron Seven might know where Mistress Eight is. The sooner she can stop spending money on Nondetection, the better.
The Coliseum seems a bit quieter as no games are currently occurring. The Gauntlet is finally at an end... and apparently there's a big fight scheduled for tomorrow... against Bonebreaker. The party decided to fight. When asking about the fight, the attendant told them they should try to stay as far apart as possible.
At a quaint stall filled with bones, a soft-spoken blue-haired man offered to read the bones. Cheveyo told the group a "ghost story". It is believed that an entity has plagued the lands of Ragna for thousands of years. The nicer variations of the story tell of how the entity possesses a host and drains them dry. Other variations tell of how the entity emerges from within, violently ripping apart ribs, necks, or spine along with flesh. Cheveyo does not need the bones to tell you that tale.
The Deep End then asked Cheveyo a series of questions and he read the bones in turn. The credibility of the answers depends on how much you trust the spirits:
  • Does Parvathian like me? He never stopped.
  • If I don't cast nondetection in the afternoon for the next week, will anything bad happen to my friends because of me? No, not from the threat you refer to.
  • Is Atu Szeme evil? From the common perspective, yes. He has what he believes is the best interests at heart for his bloodline.
  • Is my brother in danger? It is the nature of his job to be in danger.
  • Do we know the person who haunted my dreams? She has a name and a title, but you do not know her.
  • Will an assassination attempt occur in Eredet? Something big will happen in the month, but not that.
  • Will Therarask kill the Widow? That fate has not yet been decided.

Cheveyo has little interest in gold. He seemed to recognize what was within Moira and asked her how long she has lived with it. He warned her to be careful. There are people in the Coliseum who would kill her to ensure that what lives within her perishes. He would remove it, but it is so intertwined with her soul that he would kill her in the process. You know it is displeased, yes? Perhaps you should attempt to placate it, if you are to continue living with it? Moira asked if she knew how to make it happy. Cheveyo said yes.
Cheveyo has been tasked with destroying the entity known as the Parasitic Stalker. It has plagued the lands of Ragna for well over millenia and he will live on so long as his hunt continues. When asked about a chittering noise, he responded that yes, that would be the Stalker. Ghilani, however, is not possessed and there is no space in Moira for an additional "possession". It must have another host that it returns to after it forays out. When the group mentioned Bonebreaker, Cheveyo said it was possible that she could be the host. He does not have access to the Upper Levels and the Warrior Elite. If he has not found it here, perhaps it is among the Elite.
Ghilani spent his afternoon, with Moira's help, deciphering another entry from Dysis. The kalashtar woman arrived in the city of wealth, good fortune, and splendor. She was named the first Oracle in the East, an honor that seems to bring her joy.
After spending 8 hours on a spell, Ghilani received a message from Bonebreaker. After her fight tomorrow, she will take them to Matron Seven.

Moira was pulled into an alleyway in the Middle Levels by the angsty teen. You didn't put the token back on, correct? Good. He gave her an odd once over before vanishing back into the crowd of the Middle Levels.
Widow was assured by Lucille that she had everything in control. Just be patient, please. Do what you have to do.
Bonebreaker emerged from the Prince Elect's booth as the crowd roared. A middle-aged blond woman, Brigita Ragna, dressed in heavy armor kneeled next to her. Pleased with all of the bones before her to break, Bonebreaker's body groaned, snapped, and enlarged as she transformed from a tall, slender human-looking woman to a massive dragon-like form as she released a breath of dark, deathly energy. Rani and Moira were hit by the breath and Ghilani was almost engulfed, until the ghostly form of his mother appeared, shattering partially as the breath was deflected. Newt just sidestepped it. Child's play.

Widow taunted Bonebreaker, trying to get her to land. Invisible, Rani beelined for the wall behind Widow. As Bonebreaker focused on attacking Widow for a round, Rani ran up the wall and backflipped onto the dragon's back, before promptly remembering that she is terrified of her. Bonebreaker sent her to timeout shortly thereafter.
As Widow managed to get into Bonebreaker's back next, Bonebreaker's words weaved through Ghilani's mind, the token constricting slightly around his arm. As a part of the hoard, it is his duty to protect Bonebreaker! He attacked Widow, who was also then swatted by a tail and sent to the ground. Ghilani panicked as he thought the Widow was dead-dead.
Brigita is primarily there to prevent unnecessary death, but also to ensure the fight lasts a bit long. However, when Widow got up, she smacked him back down. His water elemental had received orders that it needed to follow through on, so Widow's unconscious body was slingshot upward, deflected down by the locusts, and then cushioned by the bees to the ground. The prince Elect laughed uproariously at the humorous stunt.
As the fight progressed and Bonebreaker looked hurt, Ghilani convinced most of the party to stand down and throw the fight, but Widow and Newt both seemed determined to keep going. Right before Bonebreaker could crush Widow's 4-time unconscious body, Brigita released a shrill whistle, stopping the Dracolich in her tracks.
Those still conscious heard Bonebreaker request to take the entire group as her prize. Once permitted by the Prince Elect, she took them down through many secret passageways She seemed somewhat annoyed, but did remark that the party were formidable opponents... perhaps they are suited for the task at hand.
Matron Seven is a tiefling woman with broken horns and a massive scar around one side of her mouth. The faintest trace of a smile appeared on her face when she was able to sign to Rani. She does recognize the weapons that Rani carries. After cutting her finger, a pen made of blood began to write her words above her head for all to read. She is Matron Seven, blood witch of the Forges. You wish to know where Mistress Eight is, to have a weapon forged, and to receive my blood. I do not forge for any but Champions of Ragna, but perhaps I will reconsider if you do something for me. I would have the Prince Elect Romello removed.
Bonebreaker joined in, saying that the Prince Elect threatened to cut off Matron Seven's ears. When asked further, Matron Seven said that before the Coliseum and during the Purge, there were two blood witches in Ragna. A warlord demanded they fight one another and when Matron Seven won, she refused to kill her sister. Instead, she watched her sister be cut down and then her tongue was cut out. She doesn't want to be afraid in her own home. She wants to continue forging here as she has for the past thousands of years.
Who would replace Romello then? Well, Bonebreaker is an option. She would return the Coliseum to its glory, as it was under the Warrior Queen. The Prince Elect doesn't fight anymore, and that's not how it should be... the Elect should be a warrior and Bonebreaker is more than happy to continue fighting. Matron Seven remarked that Bonebreaker would "live" as long as she... stability in rulers would be nice.
Matron Seven and Bonebreaker requested that the party travel even deeper into the bowels of the Coliseum – down to the first bones used to build the structure's foundation. They have sensed the presence of something there. Release it and lead it to the Coliseum. Once there, challenge Romello. However, Noel must NOT be permitted to fight. She works for the Prince Elect and simply cannot be trusted. The Deep End agreed.
Should the Deep End be willing to acquire Bonebreaker's heirloom from the Prince Elect, she would grant them an item from Matron Seven's forge. The Matron agreed saying that, "One is Bonebreaker's to give". Bonebreaker will look into seeing if she can get someone to provide the means to disguise Newt so he might sneak in and acquire the item.
Rani spoke with Matron Seven privately, asking about the blades and about Dysis. The blood witch described Dysis as an interesting and determined woman. She felt compelled to forge the blades for her. Matron Seven could tell that the woman had a lot on her plate, but she seemed intrigued and enjoyed watching Matron Seven work. The Matron cut her own palm and then Rani's, showing a glimpse of a day a thousand years past. Matron Seven forged the blades Rani now wields. Off to the side, a silver-haired woman sat. Her long hair was pulled back and adorned with trinkets. She dressed regally in the colors of Caliban. After commenting about the weapons to the Matron, she turned to stare at the vision's point of view... at Rani. "So you are who I forged these blades for. Read my diary and find guidance in it. For it was written in part for you... Soyolmaa's heir." Matron Seven never saw her again after she departed. This was shortly before the Dread King's War.
Moira, feeling cheated on the insurance, went to the medical ward to get reimbursed, but was dragged (along with Rani) into a closet by angsty teen boy Ezekiel. He demanded to know what Bonebreaker wanted with them. When Moira frantically asked him who the hell he was, the boy turned to Rani, mentioning that Ezra is her boyfriend before saying "There are roses everywhere". He made mention to Moira that he could have her killed for what lives within her. Now, what did Bonebreaker ask you to do? He seemed confident that Bonebreaker is currently "Kept in check", but she cannot be allowed out of that. He would also see the Prince Elect removed... but Noel must fight.
Rani immediately sought out Ezra, who didn't know an Ezekiel... but he does know that there are Rose Collective members here, including a high-ranking one. Do you need help? Thinking back to her GNO with Noel and Moira, Rani recalled that Noel, deep into her cups, might be being threatened... someone she cares about is being used as leverage against her.
Newt just seems really focused on having a Dracolich at his beck and call.

The Journal

Ran'Olvad 1000 YAR   The city of fortune and luck is overflowing with gold. It is a city of wealth and opulence, but the people here seem to be happy. They welcomed me with great cheer, crying "Oracle". I wanted to cry.   Why does my sight not see fit to show me things that would save me pain? Could it not have shown me that authorities in Caliban, Judas, and Eredet had all convened to permit me to maintain my title as Oracle? I still wish to cry, but now for joy. I may still serve Caliban. I am to be the first Oracle in the East. I shall share my gifts with the continent alongside Ayumi. Together, we make history.   I was grateful to receive this knowledge when I did, for it was shortly after receiving it that I was introduced to Judas' High Priestess. Must I also wear that much gold? It is quite gaudy and I much prefer silver. She was kind enough, I suppose, but already I feel the cold void of Soyolmaa's absence.   As I sit in my room this evening, I cannot help but feel annoyed that I have been delegated to the role of a mere Acolyte. Yes, I am entering the service of new god... but I am still an Oracle. I am Judas' Oracle.   I've decided to pour myself sake and stare at the moon.   ...   I have quite the headache this morning.
