The Legend of Vadaz
Before the Dread King and before humans colonized the region of Oshozi, a great beast threatened the shifter clans. It sprung forth within one of the great forests, terrorizing settlements, destroying crops, and preventing nearly all hunting.
By some accounts, the beast was a large bear - four times the size of any bear previously seen. It was said to have claws the length of a human head, razor-sharp and deadly. Nothing could match its strength as it brought trees down upon farms and hunters alike, ripped apart beasts of the field and beasts of the pastures, and destroyed any obstacles in its path.
By other accounts, the beast was a dragon that rose from the earth itself. It was said to have skin like the toughest bark, with molten lava running through its veins. Having awoken from its rest, it was ravenous and laid siege to the towns and settlements, abducting livestock and people alike. It would fly overhead, releasing streams of molten lava, ashen smoke, and gas upon those below.
Not one hunter dared to go up against the beast. All, except one. Vadaz was by no means the best hunter, but he was the bravest. With nothing but his hunting skills, his bow, and arrows, he tracked the beast to its lair in the forest.
He was swiftly defeated, left to rot by the beast.
It is said that a spring rose up around his body. And from the water, a white spectral stag took form. As the water encompassed Vadaz, his body began to glow as white lines and swirls formed on his body. One white lined sealed his lips shut. And when his eyes opened, they glowed white.
Having taken the oath of silence - the same oath Oshozi had taken - Vadaz was gifted with all of the powers of the god of the hunt. He was lighter and quicker on his feet. Feats of strength came easier to him. And his senses were sharper than they had ever been before.
Vadaz tracked down the beast and it is said that the sounds of their clash could be heard across the region and beyond to the roaming nomads of the Dune Sea and city of Varoona. It was a bitter clash, but Vadaz - his hand guided by Oshozi - struck a fatal blow, finally ending the beast's tyrannical reign.
As a tribute to Oshozi, he brought the beast back to the cluster of tents and temporary homes that was the city of Oshiv'Ran. After offering the beast to the high priestess, Vadaz collapsed, the tattoos faded, and the woulds he had received from his first confrontation from the beast returned.
The place where the great Vadaz fell is where the Temple of Oshozi now stands in Oshiv'Ran.
It is believed that Vadaz now sits within Oshozi's Court.
