Infused Animals
An infused animal is a species of certain animals that have made their homes in Infused Fields (see Elethian Magic) and have gained certain abilities as part of their very being, similar to an Elethian Mage. There is some scholarly debate about the exact usage of the term, and within scholarly circles, an infused animal refers to any such animal that can reproduce and bear similar infused animals as it's young and cannot leave the Infused Field for more than a few days without becoming ill, while a suffused animal is one that has either cannot reproduce or cannot pass on it's abilities through reproduction and can roam freely.
The most common types of infused animals are those of the Elemental, Life, and War forms, often occuring in great number in concentrated, long-lasting Infused Fields. However, it has been noted that insects, especially spiders and eusocial insects, have a very high tendancy to absorb higher level form of Fate, Gate, and Mind magic, which has been of significant intellectual curiosity. The only Infused animal ever known to be domesticated is the Hawkpomp, though many efforts have been made to domesticate others with middling success.
While humanoids that reside within Infused Fields for long enough periods of time can become Infused, most academics agree that humanoids react differently to non-sapient animals, and Elethian mages are the humanoid equivalent of infused animals. However, there have been ocassional reports and even proven specimens where humanoids trapped in strong Infused Fields for long periods of time have noticably shifted and gained abilities. Unfortunately, removing the humanoids from their environment proved invariably lethal.
