Khainian Sextant (Kai-nee-en sex-tant)
The Khainian Sextant is the legal currency of the Khainian Provinces, though by clever negotiation of treaties, it is also the de-facto currency of most of Khainia's neighbours, making it the de-facto currency of the western world. The coinage consists of a single copper-gold alloy coin, which can be broken up into six components pieces for smaller transactions. Stamping of the sextant is tightly controlled and uniform; each piece presents a portrait of the legendary founder of the city of Meiaros, the capital of the Khainian Provinces, on it's head, and a depiction of the Khainian scepter of office on it's tail.
Each sextant is a 25mm diameter, 2mm thick bronze-colored disk with reeded edges (70 reeds) and six small slots across which the coin can be broken up. The entire coin will buy one a hearty meal (5$), which each of the six bits will buy a particularly large loaf of bread (0.8$). Due to the unique alloy used in its creation, the work required to covertly extract value from a sextant is often not worth the effort, as extracting precious gold from common copper requires specialized smiths.
