Mending Injector (Mender)

A Mending Injector is an injector used by soldiers to immediately stabilize non-fatal wounds. They are commonly formed as steel syringes with a glass window and a large needle, filled with a small amount of healing Eleth, and a flat handle to actuate the injection mechanism. Due to the nature of their disposable usage, they are often shoddily made, though experienced soldiers will use refillable hand-crafted injectors for improved reliability. The statistics listed below assume the usage of a reliable, refillable injector.   In typical operation, the injector is plunged into the wound location, and the plunger is pushed forward into the body, then twisted to lock forward. In combat terms, this requires a Ready maneuver (with additional maneuvers as normal to draw the injector). Once injected, the healing Eleth mends the wound temporarily. In gameplay terms, this provides 1d6+1 points of healing to a single wound (meaning that the injector cannot heal for more than the worst single wound taken) for one hour. During this time, the character treats the damage as if it was healed, except for crippled limbs and senses. A crippled limb takes a -2 penalty to all actions taken with the limb, but otherwise is functional. A crippled sense is stabilized for further treatment, but is not restored. Using a mending injector with no wounds has no effect apart from a persistent, warm tingling throughout the hour.   Once the hour passes, the mending fades, and the character loses all healing gained by the injector. However, the wound is stabilized; treat this as a successful First Aid roll, effectively restoring 1 HP. Most towns with an established hospital or clinics can provide surplus Eleth to refill the injector with a cost between $50-150, depending on the size of the town and the amount of Eleth requested, though those will less scruples will simply syphon Eleth without payment. This process takes one day, though it may be left entirely unsupervised.   Significantly more powerful injectors know as Regenerators or Regenerative Injectors also exists, though they are very rare and only deployed to backline medical units or very wealthy forces. A disposable Regenerator costs $4,500, while refillable versions will start near $15,000 and can be refilled at hospitals given three days, though they consume a significant amount of Eleth and usually require negotiations with the hospital for payment. A Regenerator will permanently restore 6 HP to a single wound if used within a day, restitching nerves, muscle, and skin, and can stabilize internal injuries or organ damage if directly applied, forcibly returning the body to it's natural state through an excrutiatingly painful process. While a regenerator can temporarily fix the symptoms of poisons or diseases, repeated uses on the same body part is liable to cause all manner of secondary issues. Regenerators are not effective on the brain, though they can repair eyes and other delicate parts.   Disposable injectors used in less time sensitive applications can be purchased for $250 each and cannot be refilled. Furthermore, they require the injector paddle to be held down for three seconds after injection, which deprives the user of a hand during that time, and may malfunction. Typical disposable injectors have a malfunction rate of about 5%, though this can typically be solved by re-administering the injector, but shoddy injectors may have significantly higher rates and more destructive malfunctions.
