The Principality of Evehia is a semi-democratic republic in the north-east of Drisenheim. The republic's system of governance is famously complex, with five councils of governance and a supreme executive. Each landed citizen of Evehia is eligible for an election by lottery; those who are chosen are voted upon by the first council, known as the Major Council, to join its ranks. The Major Council has no limit to it's number, as each member serves until death or voted out, and if a member chosen by the lottery is refused, their slot is simply discarded for that year. The members of the Major Council vote from amongst themselves, members of the Senate, which is responsible for passing legislation, and from amongst the Senate, the Small Council is chosen to oversee the power of the prince.
The prince is chosen from amongst the members of the Major Council by a vote from the Senate, and will elect from those same members a cabinet to oversee parts of the republic, all of whom are subject to be vetoed by the Senate. The Senate can also, with a 2-3 super-majority, reject the election of the prince and demand a new candidate, though once elected, a prince can only be removed by a vote from the Major Council, serving unto death otherwise. This eclectic, convoluted system of governance has, nonetheless, proven stable and effective, with a wide range of people's represented within the Evehian councils. Recently, legislation has been introduced to lower the standards for entering the Major Council, though it has seen fierce debate.
For a landed citizen of Evahia, life is generally good, with a strong economy and generally cordial diplomatic relations with its neighbors, including rare diplomatic relations with the Sipadian Tribes, and a strong friendship with Banilim, in which each country helps secure their borders against the Telzian Empire and the Durpacian Caliphate. If a citizen is without land, their lives are generally poorer, typically acting as farmers or other menial workers of a landed's estate, though Evehian law allows for unlanded citizens to purchase land without special provision, and it is not uncommon for unlanded citizens to travel west to the land of the Sipadian Tribes to attempt to claim uncharted land for themselves.
