Preservation-class Voidfighter
Voidfighters are typically the last thing anyone wants to use as a long-distance craft: cramped, and difficult to equip with the necessary fuel supplies FTL-reactors, they’re almost always passed over in favor of larger gunships or pursuit sloops. Not so, with the Preservation-class: using state-of-the-art miniature power plants, as well as a custom kryolithic-stasis chamber for the pilot, this Vault vessel can go beyond where any other fighter can dream of.
Better known to outsiders as the “VALK fighter,” the Preservation-class is most recognized for its speed; while not heavily up-armored, nor as agile in space as some other fighters, it makes excellent use of sub-light boosters to get in and out of a retrieval zone in a hurry, able to outrun 90% of the SAM systems in wide use today. To protect itself, the ship’s hull was designed with specific attention paid to avoiding gaps when polarizing the armor. A robust electromagnetic shield generator provides additional protection, primarily meant to buy the pilot time to exit kryolithic stasis in the event of an emergency. For weaponry, the fighter is equipped with wing-integrated missile tubes – air-to-ground and air-to-air selectable, as well as dual reciprocating ion cannons. These ion cannons allow for disabling shots on enemy equipment, while preserving rare artifacts from physical destruction.
For the V.A.L.K.’s themselves, the Preservation-class allows them distance travel without the discomfort of being in such close-quarters. Each ship is equipped with a kryolithic-stasis chamber, a long-term cryogenic pod with life support systems that can preserve an Analyst almost indefinitely. Thus, V.A.L.K. arrive at their destination fresh and ready, having experienced minimal passage of time.
